When you’re ready to write collection finding aids to make them search and discoverable come join us at Tiny Archives, Christine! We designed and built it to be compatible with links out to digital artifacts on Permanent.

Archivists’ conundrum.
Preservation is essential. Tho’ I’m fairly convinced that our analog heritage is what will remain if society, civilization and digital technologies are ever lost. Tho’ I fully support the work of orgs like Permanent, Forever, pCloud, Internet Archive.

I was originally inspired to Long Now thinking when I read a review copy of Brand’s Clock of the Long Now.

Our team builds FACTool for archival collections inspired by the 45,500 cave painting on Sulawesi.

We hope to someday collaborate with you.

Archivists and Librarians still use TIFF for digitized textual documents

PDF/A is an ISO-standardized version specialized for use in archiving and long-term preservation of digital documents

Creating a PDF/A on PC eludes me

πŸ’‘They're easily created with ο£Ώ Preview via File > Export

For reference, ISAD-G is inclusive of 152 countries and their primary spoken/written language.

Though it does still leave us with 59 countries that are not represented.

It’s a solidly respectable start from our perspective.

Hello Dr. Manoff. Welcome!

What a teeny tiny little world. I cited your work on materiality in grad school working on my MLS. We exchanged a couple emails.

Folks who use Libraries and search WorldCat may know it as the library catalog software built by OCLC

Books are kept at the Libraries

We created FACTool to promote search + discovery + access + use of Archives

Analog and digital Archives are kept in our redundant digital and analog repositories

Cannot stress this enough

Multiple redundancies for preservation (long term storage) of our digital artifacts

1. Twin external hard drives (we 🧑 LaCie)

2. Create a budget (#GB/TB x $#) and sign up for
Permanent.org
Forever.com
pCloud.com

3. Something on our roadmap 🀫

As part of building our FACTool we designed it with a simple integration to link to your digital artifacts

Beware of Dropbox and monthly/annual cloud providers. They are digital shoeboxes.

I have lost the vast trove of my files during migration to iCloud 🧢

Fremont Projects Post by @Galerie_Fremont.

What a wonderful delightful roadmap we have in store for folks

It all begins with our FACTool

If you don’t count it beginning with the art of Jennifer Paul, which it does (check out at fremontprojects.com)

Our support for 18 languages is KISS better than no support. We build what is essential for launch.

Create and edit finding aids in DACS and ISAD(G)

Fun question!

Our Grandfather kidnapped us on little afternoon roadtrips. He would drive us places that were thriving in the early 20th century. It’s like he transported us. Also Science Fiction and Historical Dramas, if that makes sense.
