Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci

In 2021 Salvator Mundi became the most expensive painting ever sold at $450.3 million. The painting is quite controversial and some dispute whether it was only partially painted by da Vinci or even at all.

The preliminary sketches and the painting itself suggest that Leonardo was concentrating on the idea of sight and perspective. The child is thought to be guiding his mother's hands into his central vision.

“Saint John the Baptist” is a High Renaissance oil painting on walnut wood by Leonardo da Vinci. Likely to have been completed between 1513 and 1516, it is believed to be his final painting. Its original size was 69 by 57 centimetres. The painting is in the collection of the Louvre.
