Is it good or bad if writing the response to reviewers takes considerably longer than the revision itself?

29.10.2025 01:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Don't get me wrong, when people today seem increasingly comfortable saying truly awful things I appreciate a little over-the-top politeness. But students shouldn't feel like they are bothering me by asking questions or coming to office hours. Those are just basic job duties that I am happy to do.
24.10.2025 14:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Does anyone else have students that apologize too much?
I've noticed a big increase in students apologizing for things like, "bothering" me during office hours, mediocre performance on a quiz, asking questions about an assignment, or getting feedback on work. None of these require an apology.
I read world news more than is healthy so I'm not naive about what's going on, but nevertheless I was not prepared for such a thing at 7:30am in a lecture on inclusion and dyslexia.
Just and incredible moment that really put things in perspective for me. 4/4
However, one student that was Zooming in from Afghanistan said, with a big genuine smile, that his day was sunny because the internet was working and there were no bombs today.
I was not prepared for that. 3/4
The instructor that invited me began by asking everyone about their "weather." Were they having a sunny day? Cloudy day? etc. It was a lovely way for students to share current mood and well being. Most said something like, "I'm sunny bc it's sunny here and its been a good day." 2/4
22.10.2025 15:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Something happened this morning during a lecture that I was simply not prepared for. 1/4
I was invited to give a talk about special ed, inclusion, and dyslexia to students at the American University of Central Asia. It was a delightful group that was very engaged.
Conference registration rates are outta control.
I just got an email with a rate of $700 for a 2 day conference. Utterly absurd.
Donald Trump is trying to fire nearly every federal worker who supports special needs education.
Itβs kids with disabilities who will suffer.
The cruelty is the point.
ACTION ALERT: Department of Education has nearly wiped out OSERSβoffices essential to ensuring students with disabilities receive the services theyβre guaranteed under IDEA. Congress must act NOW. Tell lawmakers: Restore OSEP. Protect IDEA. #4SpecialEducation

Few things are as persistent and widespread in U.S. education as shortages of special educators. As a former Pre-K and K teacher, I wish I'd had more training related to learning differences.
