Bishop Tells Trump to ‘Have Mercy’ on Immigrants and Gay Children The direct appeal to President Trump at the start of the first full day of his presidency was a remarkable moment at a National Cathedral event that has not historically been political.

The bishop at President Trump’s inaugural prayer service implored him to “have mercy” on gay, lesbian and transgender children, as well as undocumented immigrants.

“I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” asked Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde.

Hidden Mercy was published three years ago this weekend! Loved seeing it this morning still on the shelves at Unabridged Books in Chicago!

Remembering the Catholic sister who served people with AIDS Carol Baltosiewich, who ministered to people with HIV and AIDS, died earlier this year. Michael O'Loughlin remembers her in this appreciation.

Carol's nephew emailed to let me know of her passing and to share with me that a copy of Hidden Mercy had been included in a memorial at her funeral Mass. He thanked for helping him and the rest of his family come to know his aunt better. 4/5

I was heartened to hear how meaningful she had found the whole experience of sharing her story with a wider audience and I was so happy to be able to tell her in person how much her work meant to an entirely new generation of LGBT Catholics. 3/5
