As the administration’s reductions in government services, programs and the civil service continue to impact how agency services, these cuts will influence how Americans relate to their government and levels of trust. Explore the public opinion data here.

The 2025 data show that trust in the government remains low, with only 33% of Americans sharing that they trust the government.

While this number is still low and confirms a continued crisis, it is an increase from 2024, when only 23% of Americans trusted the government.

Shining a Light on the Destruction of our Government The Trump administration promised transparency, but on one of its most consequential priorities, it has gone to great lengths to obfuscate.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan @ourpublicservice.bsky.social, created the Federal Harms Tracker, a new initiative that will measure and report on reductions to the federal workforce. The report includes 659 job losses at VOA.

We built the Federal Harms Tracker to help the public better understand the scale, impact and risk that the Trump administration's nonstrategic and careless cuts have on Americans now and for years to come. Explore agency reductions and read the impact stories here. bit.ly/CostToYourGov

While the impact of government management decisions can often be abstract or hard to trace, the erosion of government capacity has a measurable effect on the public. Our tracker makes outcomes of these decisions visible by measuring and mapping cuts to federal personnel, funding and infrastructure.

As of July 21, 2025, our data indicates that over 148,000 civil servants have left the federal workforce, with the largest reductions in February, March and June.

Our Federal Harms Tracker is a new data and storytelling tool that documents harms and risks to the public resulting from the Trump administration's efforts to dismantle federal institutions. "The Cost to Your Government," the tracker's first product, focuses on federal workforce reductions.
