Visual evidence upends Israel’s official story for deadly attack on Gaza hospital Israeli troops say they targeted a Hamas camera in an August strike, but a Reuters investigation found the device belonged to one of the news agency’s journalists. An Israeli official now says troops fired without required approval. The five journalists who died in the strike are among 200 killed by Israel that it has yet to fully explain.

On Aug 25, Israeli defense forces attacked a Gaza hospital, killing our colleague Hussam al-Masri. We spent the last few weeks reviewing footage and interviewing witnesses. The visual evidence contradicts Israel’s official story.

Iran had imperial ambitions in Syria. Secret embassy papers show why it failed Iran dreamed up a U.S.-style Marshall Plan to rebuild Syria after the civil war. It invested billions to build influence there. Documents from its looted embassy in Damascus reviewed by Reuters show how that plan went spectacularly wrong with the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.

@reuters.com read piles of abandoned embassy papers about Tehran’s economic strategy in Assad-era Syria. Turns out the Iranians just got robbed and scammed until they wept, like everyone else.

Text from Reuters story:

β€œOn Saturday evening, agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security arrested Khalil in front of his wife, a U.S. citizen who is eight months pregnant, in their building's lobby, telling him his student visa had been revoked, according to Amy Greer, a lawyer for Khalil.

β€œKhalil has held a U.S. permanent residency green card since 2024, Greer said in a statement. His wife showed the agents Khalil's green card and they also threatened to arrest her if she did not leave her lobby, Greer said.

β€œThey then said the green card was also revoked, declining to give a reason, and handcuffed Khalil, Greer said.

β€œHours before his arrest, Khalil told Reuters he was concerned that the government was targeting him for his high-profile comments about what he calls an anti-war movement to the media.”

They arrived at the United States border from around the world, hoping to seek asylum. Instead, they were detained, shackled and flown by the U.S. military to a faraway country, Panama.

They were stripped of their passports and most of their cellphones, they said, and then locked in a hotel, barred from seeing lawyers and told they would soon be sent to a makeshift camp near the Panamanian jungle.

At the hotel, at least one person tried to commit suicide, according to several migrants. Another broke his leg trying to escape. A third sent a plaintive missive from a hidden cellphone: β€œOnly a miracle can save us.”
