Metaphorically occupying a spot in the foyer. In the building, but staying aware of, and close to, the exits. Ask me about the scratchy wall covering.

If you live in Davis County, Utah, go to burrn.org and check whether your signature is listed. If it is and you don’t support gerrymandering, take steps to remove it according to the instructions at that website.

Somebody should check in with UT Sen. Mike Lee, see if he’s doing ok. See if he needs someone to talk to or something.

I realize the way I wrote my responses above it makes it sound like I'm one of these same people who thought they'd only deport "the criminals" etc.

I'm not. I'm confessing that I didn't think they'd go as hard as they have been. I thought they'd try to be more strategic to keep public support.

Kudos for catching that.

I was glancing at that earlier thinking similarly. The option for when a law is struck down as unconstitutional is to change the constitution to allow it, not whatever this bill is.

Which, ok, they pass this bill and then the court strikes it down as unconstitutional ... then what?

Thought they would be smart enough(?) to realize that deporting all the people actually working would tank the economy when no one is doing those jobs anymore because they can't pay legal workers enough.

I never questioned their racism, I just didn't realize it was white nationalism the whole time.

I didn't think the "mass deportations now" thing would play out the way it has. I honestly thought it would be used more as a threat and the result would be part more exploitation for undocumented workers, and part making examples of employers ratted out by their trump-supporting competitors.

Family in the neighborhood a while back (long since moved away) who named their daughter Eda, or Eida. I forget how it was spelled, but sounds like EE-da. They didn't realize that is so very close to any teenage boy's mind like "Eat a ..."

Their last name is Johnson.

I feel so sorry for her.

My wife always wanted a boy named Henry and his nickname to be Hank. Just throwing that out there as an option. No pressure to even consider it.

A moment I often think about is how when Romney, a Mormon, was eyeing a presidential run, his advisors organized a meeting with evangelical leaders in 2006. Jerry Falwell and Franklin Graham then grilled him on the Trinity & the Nicene Creed.

Just imagine Trump being grilled about the Nicene Creed.

Good point, and I keep banging the drum that ICE doesn't have to be anywhere near polling places for there to be an effect on voter turnout. Just their presence in a city can cause people to be afraid to go to school, work, shopping ... do we think they won't be afraid to go vote?

6 people seen in the background of the news articles lead image. They have varying facial expressions ranging from looking away uncomfortably to staring at the speaker in brown face with a grin. One person's facial expression is not visible, but the top of their head and a peak at their eyes through glasses is visible just popping above the shoulder of the brown-face speaker.

There is an entire series of novels that could be written from just the cast of background characters in that photo.

Ardis Parshall was an OG Mormon on the Internet. The same generosity she described in 1997 carried forward into 2017 at least as she was more than willing to share resources when I reached out to her about a tangential piece of research. In her honor, I will keep-a-pitchin-in

There’s a gofundme to help pay for funeral and headstone costs, keeping her blog alive and functional, and to support the Ardis E. Parshall Award at the Mormon History Association. Consider donating?

The Mormon history world lost one of our absolute best recently. Ardis Parshall was a dogged researcher--one of the best the LDS tradition ever produced--and a fiercely loyal friend. She influenced so much, and her legacy should prompt us to be even better. www.sltrib.com/religion/202...

I only really knew Ardis Parshall tangentially through social media posts and interactions from those I follow that knew her better. While I am enjoying getting to know more about her through the remembrances that others are posting, I am deeply saddened that it took her passing for this to happen.

In Memory of Ardis Parshall - By Common Consent, aMormon Blog This morning I opened Facebook and, to my surprise and enormous sadness, learned that Ardis Parshall had passed away.

This will largely be meaningless here, but I need to share it anyway.

Ardis Parshall was a relentless researcher in Mormon history. She lacked the degrees to break into the academy, but she nurtured almost everybody from my generation of Mormon Studies scholars. 1/
