Yes that's all very true, sadly. I'm quite old now and have spent over 40 years cycling everywhere so I guess I've had a good run, so to speak. I was riding up to a day before the births of my 3 children and I assumed I would do until the day I die. I fear that day would come too soon if I carry on

Sometimes it's quiet between 3am and 5am. Not always though. Walking along it is awful, and trying to cross is virtually impossible

My days of being on the road are definitely over. I find car drivers in a small town behave appallingly because of overcrowded roads and constant road works. My town has some very narrow roads too and that makes them even worse. I stick to the pavements now

Not really got any choice. I rent and there's nowhere else that will rent to a pensioner round here, or that I can afford. I'm likely to be evicted in a few years when they sell so I'll be homeless anyway

It's a nice thought but I imagine that would make car drivers even angrier at me for taking up even more space! It's not my riding that worries me, it's the reaction of car drivers to cyclists these days. I've had abuse shouted at me for just being on the roads

No, not really. My hips and legs tend to object to any sort of exercise these days. I do force them to take me out for a walk every couple of days though because apparently my heart needs it

Just gave away my lovely electric bike. I've cycled all my life but have come to realise that it's so unsafe for cyclists on the road nowadays and I'm not as sturdy as I used to be since the heart attack so can't risk being knocked now. At least someone may get use of it
