Found her in our bedroom at 9.45pm. Apparently she has a secret hidey hole. And didn’t think to come downstairs for food or to pee or, you know, just to say hello when we were outside in the garden calling for her πŸ™„

Yesterday our cat went missing for 10 hours. We looked everywhere, under bed, in cupboards etc, multiple times. Introduced ourselves to our brand new neighbours to check in their shed. Posted on FB community groups, panic stricken…

I’m so pleased you found this helpful - and thank you for taking the time to tell me. It’s great to get this kind of feedback, this is what the podcast is all about about - sharing experiences we can relate to and reflect on our own lives

β€œI really struggle with life as it was meant to live, like capitalism and my wild brain just do not dance well together. So you can see where the equity issues come in and the financial disadvantage, because I can't work in an office, I can't work full time. At my baseline best, I need this sort of monotropic focus and I need a huge amount of downtime, and the consequences... It is not a choice. I always talk about the gamer analogy: at least now I know I'm playing on hard mode.” Anissa Ljanta, Squarepeg podcast Season 9 Episode 9

This week on the podcast I chat with Anissa Ljanta, a writer and neurodivergent specialist coach whose inability to live the 9-5 life led her to step out of life as most people know it.

Navy text on a cream background reads: β€œIn terms of being able to openly say that I'm autistic, initially I was not able to. This was where I had to sit with myself. Understand 7 years I have been a leader within the disability community, running a dance company that has got awards and international attention through our work in disability inclusion. Here I am, diagnosed with autism and unable to tell the world that I am autistic. I had to really examine my own ableism and my own stigma around autism.” Marisa Hamamoto, Season 9 Episode 8.

Bottom right is an image of Marisa, an Asian-American woman in her early 40s with long straight dark hair, wearing a bright pink strappy top, looking over her shoulder at the camera, smiling very slightly.

To the right over a pink background, a pic of Dr Mel Houser, a white woman with shoulder length dark hair wearing a turquoise blue top. She's smiling at the camera. Her eyes smile too.

To the left is a pic of me, Amy Richards, a white woman with dark blonde hair and glasses, wearing headphones, grey jacket and black 'Neurodivergent' t-shirt. Mouth open as if I'm speaking.

Text says: 'Why the system is thwarting autistic people: reimagining neurodivergent health. Squarepeg Podcast Season 9, Episode 7 with Dr Mel Houser'

β€œYou gotta learn about your needs. You gotta learn you *have* needs. Understand what you need to fully and meaningfully show up in the world, because that is a foundation of health.” Dr Mel Houser talks about neurodivergent inclusive healthcare on my podcast this week.
