this is why I got into Black feminist theory. the research on sexual violence was VERY white when I first started researching like 15-20 years ago. in the West, gender is VERY racialized

The amount of misogyny is academia remains horrific -- and even worse, it is not going away with the older generation as one might have hoped. It is being recapitulated in a new generation.

The film follows an Irish refugee girl and a Choctaw boy who meet in 1847 New York and journey across America together, drawing on the real historical bond between Ireland and the Choctaw Nation.

Some of the most engrossing 19th century prose I know of can be found on a website run by a retiree who has spent the last 16 years transcribing thousands of letters, almost all of them in private hands, written by Civil War soldiers. billyyankjohnnyreb.wordpress.com/2015/12/05/l... #19thCentury

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

Vancouver’s Chinese community says mayor’s apology isn’t good enough Some members of Vancouver’s Chinese community say they’re not satisfied with Mayor Ken Sim’s apology following his false claims that a city councillor distributed drugs on Christmas Day.

“'Fairchild TV News has not received any statement in Cantonese and/or Mandarin from Mayor Ken Sim, despite Sim stating he would do so yesterday,' said Albert Tsui, with Fairchild TV News."

Hey, if you're feeling like life has passed you by and you're too old to start something new, remember that John Brown was 55 before he killed his first pro-slavery settler in the Kansas Territory. It's never too late to follow your dreams.

Imagine being told you, your friends, loved ones and neighbours had to leave your home forever because of the increasing risk of extreme flooding.

That's what's happened in Western Rwanda where deadly floods have hit hard and are likely to return.

We may be certain of one thing at least: John Henry Newman is not spinning in his grave because of Galway University's repositioning itself as primarily a vocational school.

When the church authorities went to dig him up a few years ago in search of 'first-class relics', they found the grave empty.

“Have you considered resigning?” asks a reporter.

Sim does not directly answer.

Because this is a public setting, a few people shouted “take accountability!” or “resign!” as things went on.

No time for breakfast in the mornings? No problem - you can catch up and eat your cereal from a bowl with a spoon while overtaking cyclists in traffic.

Landscape format in acrylic on canvas. In a field of long yellow grass a large outbuilding with rusted corrugated roof occupies left half of painting with very dark shadow side facing viewer. It extends beyond the left edge of the painting. Wooden posts holding a wire fence run diagonally through foreground. Tall yellow-flowered weeds stand out against the dark shadow side of the outbuilding while bright grey gable end with small windows is in sun. Behind into the right half of the picture is a smaller outbuilding and in the top left corner above the corrugated roof is green foliage of a tree-top. At the far end of the field, visible by the right edge, is a hedgerow of very dark green with brighter uneven top. Beyond it are pale turquoise and purple hills in front of pale blue mountains, the furthest one with a distinctive conical peak reaching up to near the top of the painting. Sky is light blue with large white soft clouds. Signed bottom right in dark blue on the long yellow grass, Liam Daly

Time for a #painting. From a few years ago, "Mayo Shed" came out of an idyllic day in the west of Ireland where I cycled from County Galway north and around the back of Croagh Patrick. This was an outbuilding I enjoyed seeing before coming in Louisburgh as I headed towards Clew Bay. #art #SpeirGhorm

“Are swear words okay?” is the most common question I get about custom message mugs. No need to explain. You can absolutely send your Nana a mug with the c-word on it.

My rules are simple: no slurs, no threats, and nothing that will get the secret service called on me. Otherwise go wild! 🩸 #pottery
