I really did think the Riyadh Comedy Festival would help bring peace to the Middle East

⋯⋯⋯Social Murder

“When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder. But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position

I'm so sad--but also frustrated!--by this.

I LOVE Car Free Day. It was such a fun way to see what our streets COULD be: full of life, family, community, and local business...not just cars.

Something is very, very wrong in Vancouver when such a wildly popular event can't make it work.

Rubio on Iran:

That entire regime is led by radical clerics who don’t make geopolitical decisions.

They make decisions on the basis of theology — their view of theology, which is an apocalyptic one.

Say what you will about the strikes on Iran and the resulting chaos, but Hegseth truly has captured the chivalric ethos of the original Crusaders (purposeless, unstrategic, basically slaughtering people for clout)

Thing is, I don't really believe that Israel forced the US's hand here, no matter what Rubio may say. The US just doesn't take actions it does not want to take. What is actually happening here is much darker - Rubio is using Israel as a scapegoat to avoid taking US responsibility for the war.

GW‘s student newspaper appears to have broken the story that the institution has sold a satellite campus to Amazon to be turned into a data center, which is just about chef’s kiss for the state of American higher education rn

Its one thing to read the histories and realize that fascism is an ideology by and for weird losers who suck at everything, and another to live through it

Same dog, same scene, now with her big pink tongue wrapping around the fry.

Now she squints happily as her mouth closes on the fry. Wictory!

Yes, the world is a garbage fire - but have you given a dog any French fries lately?

CAR FREE VANCOUVER SOCIETY

Vancouver's Car Free Day is cancelled for 2026 and might never come back. Bad news for Main, Denman and Commercial businesses. But good news for cars and their people.

I believe that a light overcast is the best lighting condition for photographing birds, by avoiding harsh shadows and faithfully bringing out colors. This cedar waxwing enjoys #perfectlighting for a #birdoftheday shot.

Peep show in a small box (about the size of a large index card, showing an author in a red coat, manuscript in his hand, dog at his side surveying the workings of a print shop.)

Peep show in a small box (about the size of a large index card, showing an author in a red coat, manuscript in his hand, dog at his side surveying the workings of a print shop.)

Today, thanks to the Houghton Library, I got to introduce students to an #18thcentury German peepshow showing the interior of a printing house. Take a peek! (It was hard to photograph & the photo fails to include the cat who joins the dog in the foreground as 1 of the spectators.)

This also requires an aircraft carrier. One we can't staff but will park somewhere to impress the Americans.

ireland needs to grow up and take responsibility for its own defense, the time of nato freeloading is over

we must scrap our entire education budget and instead buy 3 fighter planes to instantly get shot down in a friendly-fire incident

there is no "magic wand" to wave to make this not necessary

Not a crowds person so don't go to many of these, but am always struck by how big a role they seem to play for charities, political parties, civic groups, who all have stalls at them. Ken Sim, our very small mayor, is shrinking our city.

I might be new here, but I think a city that fosters community, local business and arts festivals is a better one to live in than a city where, if you say it should be for anyone other than tesla-driving real estate investors, the mayor will call you a drug dealer.
