I've always understood that saying to be a criticism of the people you seem to be frustrated with. People will say "nuh-uh, this *isn't* like 1930s Germany. There are all these differences!" and the response is that sure, it's not *identical*, but it's important that the same principles are in play.

That is something that the furry fandom has over its cousin, the Brony fandom. Of course, that fandom's artistic output is legendary, but it is still primarily tied to one IP. Which is also kind of unifying, so I guess it has pros and cons.

My husband has a very similar background to me, but as I share a lot of the books I love (we go through audiobooks together) and even with that I've definitely had to pay attention to the difference between
"I like this",
"I think this is 'objectively' good'",
and "I think HE will like this"

I note some opposition to this proposition, ie "But surely [author] holds up better than every other!" and "there is no perceptible variation in literary opinion based on disparate life experiences," and in both cases: oh, honey. Okay.
