Social control drove ant evolution
Fantastic piece (doi.org/10.1073/pnas...) by @tlinksvayer.bsky.social on @arthurmatte.bsky.social and my recent paper in PNAS (doi.org/10.1073/pnas...). He really pulls together the threads of how we believe that socially transferred materials #socialfluids entrenched social complexity in ants. 1/2

Eusociality evolved at a much higher rate in haplodiploid insects
Excited to share this preprint with @tlinksvayer.bsky.social where we use phylogenetic comparative methods to empirically test the association between haplodiploidy and eusociality on a species-level insect phylogeny!

cover image of an entomology starter pack - well more invert-ology - on Bluesky
I was looking for an #Entomology Starter Pack but I couldn't find one - so I started to build one! It's already morphing into more of a list of invertebrate aficionado/lovers.
Did I miss you? Aplogies! Reply to this post and I'll remedy that!

Face view of a large black ant with unusually large eyes.
This ant sees what you’ve done.
