My group at is hiring a PhD student to explore how fungal pathogens that live in the environment will adapt their genomes, acquire new phenotypes, and perhaps even increased infectivity as a result of climate change. Please share!

A comparison of two photos of Candida albicans shows that a denser biofilm is formed in the presence of human albumin (right) than in its absence (left). In the photos, the yeast cells were colored in a golden hue.
π‘ New infection strategy in #Candida albicans discovered: human #albumin reprograms its metabolism, turning harmless strains pathogenic β without the need of hyphae or toxins. #LeibnizHKI

Microbial adaptive pathogenicity strategies to the host inflammatory environment
Abstract. Pathogenic microorganisms can infect a variety of niches in the human body. During infection, microbes can only persist if they adapt adequately
We are excited to share that in the last few days of 2024 our review on how bacterial and fungal pathogensπ¦ π𧫠bind and/or sense immune mediators to evade and escape the immune system has been published in @femsjournals.bsky.social #FEMSMicrobiologyReviews.
