Had to look out old photos for nephew’s birthday and came across lots from South America. Looking at the quality of most of them either i have got better or the equipment has, maybe both!

A week before this I had climbed to the top of a snow capped, recently active volcano (Villarica) in southern Chile but Rapa Nui was an even more extraordinary experience. Long long way to go but worthwhile.

Ha! Not sure why I was wearing a Barcelona top... A unique destination and yes amazing, a tiny island thousands of miles out in the Pacific littered with these amazing statues. Nowhere quite like it.

Something different, 25 years ago i visited Rapa Nut (Easter island). There are circa 1,000 statues (moai) on the island in various stages of completion with about 200 perched on their final platforms (ahu). For scale my daysac is included on a Pukao (hat) & I stand by a buried moai at Rano Raraku.

I had several close encounters yesterday with a brave wee female kingfisher on the Water of Leith. She flew over to my side of the river & landed circa 10 feet away. Unperturbed by passersby (except some off the leash dogs) she proceeded to catch several fish. @wolct.bsky.social #Birds #Edinburgh

Another clip from the River Kelvin in Glasgow. This was an epic struggle between Kingfisher and what i think is an eel elver. Lasted several minutes, we think he won but he flew off to the other side of the river to finish the job. Starts full speed and then goes slow-mo, no sound. #birds
