If you’re doing patient involvement for a mental health service and you are only listening to people who have been able to use the service, you risk an incomplete picture. You also need to listen to those who needed the service but were excluded from it, unable to access it, or β€˜gatekept’ away.

I swear there's a special sort of dread only experienced by MH nursing students when confronted by a need to demonstrate competence in proficiencies entirely alien to professional interest. I'm flat bricking it about an ED shift tomorrow that will see me needing to attempt cannulation...

I had an absolutely brilliant spoke out to a Community Engagement Team at a local Trust whose primary role was literal boots on the ground in Trust catchment to reach demographics barriered to care access. Sad that this doesn't seem to be standard practice across the board

A group of people who talk about BPD, EUPD and Personality Disorder in an informed way. Covering the full spectrum from those that love the diagnosis to those who would bin it tomorrow.

Given how much I bleat on about the importance of relationships it blows my mind that 9 automated text messages over a year can reduce self harm by 20%

It'd be a bit deflating if it wasn't such a positive outcome πŸ˜‚

Just in case any other #studentnurses are facing the same annual ball-ache with the DWP around UC calculations/entitlements and the NHS LSF grants then you may find this www.rcn.org.uk/Get-Help/Mem... helpful?

...(esp ACES) but much of the work in drug & alcohol services that I would argue see a fair amount of the cPTSD/PD spectrum is about internalising locus to allow for hope/chance of change? It just reads like a bit of a straw man in all honesty.

'To put it another way, when CPTSD is diagnosed, the patient is seen as a passive, helpless victim of past trauma who makes no contributions to their continued suffering.' Certainly does not present as a reasonable statement? Externalise the locus for the traumatic events/context themselves..

Ruffalo normally comes across with some quite considered and well read positions for his take on BPD (not that I'm always comfortable with them). This does not seem to mirror his normal attention to detail?

I finally got round to starting to read the thesis itself last night. Fascinating but oh man do I need to not be working a 50 hour placement week to give myself a shot at properly digesting it all πŸ˜‚

...stored in the experiences of B5-B7 practice nurses running various student education groups & forums. It would be great to see them get more of a seat at the table for discussions on step change to better retain the investment made in pre-reg/NQN. Anyone have any experience of this done well?

Three years into being a #studentnurse, I've been quite active on various steering groups aimed at QI in student & NQN attrition/retention. It's fantastic to be included in these but oh man do ICBs seem to miss a trick on including the next link in the chain. There is such a wealth of information...

...(omg threads are so easy on this!) with no interest in losing QoL through palliative chemo or her dignity to becoming bed bound I am so grateful that AD was an option for her. I a very limited idea of the complexity for implementation in the UK but I hope we can find a way to it.

My mum died of acute leukaemia just over a year ago. As she was Dutch she got a combination of incredible palliative/EoL support from HCPs, her local community/friends and ultimately her GP who legally eased her passing before she became entirely bed bound. As a fiercely independent 67 year old...
