I wonder if we'll ever recover from the damage the Trump administration is doing to our country. 18F, for example, did only good things, in my opinion. Now, it's all lost.

I think the situation is different this time because the populist rage is directed against these elites. Who will restore the rule of law? Must it come from the MAGA movement, post Trump's presidency? Or do we need a populist rage against MAGA first, and then rethink who we are as a nation?

What I’m now curious about is how, historically, the populist rage ended up handing back the “keys” it had stolen from the British to the very elites who wrote the Constitution. Could we apply a similar process in the future, or are the situations too different?

It seems the election of Biden gave us the illusion that the legalism of 1789 hadn’t retreated, that the rebellious spirit of 1776/2016 was just a brief, isolated moment in our history. But now that we know that’s not the case, I doubt we can simply return, in 2028, to how things were before

As a web developer, I think it will be challenging to build UIs that mimic this effect, especially if UI elements like buttons or the dock function this way, reflecting the colors of nearby elements without those elements being directly beneath them.

However, Apple seems to be moving toward a new paradigm, one where your device is not just a flat, horizontal surface but instead exists within a fully realized 3D world.

Most web UIs represent a 2D layering approach, where elements are stacked on top of each other, much like the original desktop metaphor of a computer.

Here, the color within the glass reflects the surrounding environment, creating a 3D, sideways reflection. This doesn’t resemble how glass interacts with objects placed on a table; rather, it mimics how glass behaves when objects are levitating, with content visible behind them.

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.
