It is astonishing how different the trajectory of FB has gone since the movie. Will it soon be time for a sequel?

Glasgow should do a Cringe Festival for all the people who donโt feel like theyโre up for The Fringe. Itโd be fucking great.

Even though I live in another country, I still have a lifetime membership for The Prince Charles. Why? Because itโs one of THE best cinema in the world hands down.
I fear this is the first of many important cultural institutions facing existential threats.

You should watch the wider film of Hypernormalisation to understand the context (which is free on YouTube, itโs Adam Curtisโ best work) but it hits on the very point you make.

17.01.2025 08:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And in the end of this heroโs journey tale, the director of the museum tells Nigel that he has saved the museum, that it no longer needs to survive on government funding, and that he truly is โthe greatest friend of the museum.โ
17.01.2025 08:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Anyway, in the end, Nigel scrambles to perform the show - which I think was originally about Scottish history, but rewrites it to be about British History (but really English history, without any of the warts,) reconnects with his daughter, and shows her the light (of the far r*ght.)
17.01.2025 08:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Also, Edinburgh as a city during the Fringe is fairly empty. Has plenty of space to walk about. Although, we really only see Waverley Station and the Royal Mile. The odd insufferable American tourist Nigel has to ignore as well. And the Scottish people are all bagpipes and tartan.
17.01.2025 08:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Ofc, in typical movie fashion representing theatre on film, his daughter is in a painfully bad contemporary dance show that nobody understands and contains only an audience of people who seem to have a cough. As well, how annoying are those pesky leaf-letters!
17.01.2025 08:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0For some reason, the Museum needs an urgent stand in for one of their shows during the Fringe. So they seek out the help from their donors, the Friends of the Museum. As an excuse to be in the same city as his disenfranchised leftie daughter to make amends and show her the way, he takes on the role.
