"How can you oppose war when Khamenei was evil?"

Simple. If you killed Donald Trump by nuking Washington DC, I would not mourn Trump but I'd still say you're an evil war criminal who belongs in the Hague. It's really not hard.

we are currently living under a fascist government that disappears its own citizens but I would still prefer other countries not to bomb our schools

Joe Dante and Hideo Kojima are close seconds but no director was more right about the future of war than Barry Levinson with the 1992 box office flop Toys.

There is no marketing I'm more susceptible to these days than any company saying they don't use generative AI in their projects. I'm a sitting duck for that promise even if they're selling graham crackers or masking tape.

Reminder that if you see something horrific, there is good evidence that playing Tetris as soon as possible helps.

Giving yourself PTSD from seeing photos or film clips doesn’t help anyone.

Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.

They study Persepolis at the American military academies, you know. I wonder if it will make a difference, or if it could

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

A hardback book - Murder On Location. The cover photo features a clapperboard on which various murder weapons are arranged - a gun, a knife, a syringe, some bullets. Also sat on the board, a mannequin head wearing a wide-brimmed hat and red scarf.

The flyleaf blurb for the book 'Nobody had to tell George Kennedy that shooting a movie was hard work. But it wasn't the early calls, endless retakes or life on location in Mexico that got to him. it was murder. One bizarre murder after another. First the pretty script girl was sliced up like cold cuts. Then the stunt man missed his air bag at the bottom of the cliff. With corpses coming in faster than film footage, Kennedy and cop-turned-actor Mike Corby had to figure everyone for a suspect - even stars like Dean Martin, Raquel Welch and Yul Brynner. with no clues, no motive, and death the only alibit, Kennedy and corby had some fast actin to do. Veteran actor Kennedy has tackled some tough roles. But never has he been forced to put his life on the line to finish a film.

Today's best second-hand book buy - Murder On Location, the first crime novel by the actor George Kennedy, all about the actor George Kennedy investigating a series of murders on a film set.

And I wonder what the future is going to hold for all of us with that passport. I'll be here if people need me I guess, is all I can say for now

Over the years I've often been told I'm not like other Americans, which is the backhanded compliment way of telling me I've jettisoned that attitude. I appreciate it, but also don't, because I still have the passport so I'm exactly the same

Very early into my junior year abroad in Belfast I was introduced to a Scottish pastor who heard my accent, sniffed at me and said, "America, what a lovely place to be from," and then waited to be sure I understood the insult

I guess one thing my fellow Americans are going to have to learn in the coming years is that they no longer belong to the most special nation on earth and if they want to make friends elsewhere that attitude is the first thing they'll need to jettison

I was doing some of my Arabic lessons on a train in maybe 2002 when a lady in a headscarf and her kids sat at my table. My lessons were forgotten as we chatted. I clearly remember the lady telling me she loathed terrorism and I laughed and said I knew or she wouldn't be chatting to me

I am calm and clear about my politics and this kind of prejudice is the price you pay for being who you are, but I don't have to like it and it's fair to point out that this horrifying war will isolate me more than ever. I won't go on about this though, don't worry

As an American who lives elsewhere I expect I will swiftly be nostalgic for the days of W, when complete strangers told me he was a cunt as soon as they heard my accent and people were incredibly rude to me once they realised my nationality. This is only going to get worse

On Monday I told a friend of mine, who was panicking because her teenie's daycare had lost power, that nobody would attack little kids as the first strike of a war. And I think I will be angry that her paranoia is justified for the rest of my life, all the more so because it was done in my name

The military obsession with AI is in large part about being able to command something to kill, with instant compliance, no rebuttal nor compunction
