I wish some major media outlets would do broad reports on the impact of death threats on our politics, and on who's doing them (MAGA men mostly from what I can tell), and why law enforcement appears to be doing so little about them. They are such a big (submerged) part of our politics now.

When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.

And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.

we appear to have four competing fascist movements jockeying for control: blood & soil nazism under miller and hegseth, darwinian ecofascism from rfk, technofascism under vance and musk, and one Big Wet Hitler who understands the true animating core of the american volk is a deep love for shopping

this is what awaits us if we fail to crush Platner in the primary, "oh the party of Nazi Tattoos has something to say?" every time forever

The same people telling you about losing young white men are the same people who used to tell young black men that police reform wasn't necessary, they just needed to pull up their pants

No one before Ben has ever considered that trans women might actually be effeminate gay boys. No one has ever suggested such a thing to us, repeatedly, in a bid to prevent us from transitioning, or developed entire typologies around the idea, or reinforced it in multiple academic fields!

Huh I thought Groundhog Day was last month. Guess we'll see the same lawsuit and same settlement in a year, because the police are never going to stop being opaque fascists

This was the original sin of anti-woke (besides being terrible people): Corporate diversity was a cash grab not something from central planning

If you told a studio bigwig in January 2025 that the runaway hit movie of the year would be about how white supremacists are worse than vampires, he would have gotten special dispensation from Gavin Newsom to kill you on suspicion of being a mentally ill homeless person

The correct word for killing a lot of people, destroying a lot of things, spending a lot of resources, and ending up back where things started is "failure." Or if you'll allow two words, "avoidable disaster."

The rich always threatened to leave if you tax them. They never do. #taxtherich TikTok video by Ron Davis

The billionaires are bluffing. Tax increases in MA, CA, NJ, and Seattle were all met with β€œthe rich and the jobs will leave” and yet they all grew substantially anyway.

Don’t buy the BS. Pass the millionaire tax, with no cuts for mega corporations or giant estates.

Ask yourself why this one issue is not worth "both-siding" to death. Imagine a decade of where they don't ever talk to a Trump voter

But taking a broader view, Benghazi:
β€’ eroded Clinton’s crossover appeal
β€’ covered Clinton in controversy
β€’ brought EMAILS to light
β€’ paved Trump’s path to power…

Seriously: Are we deliberately setting up a situation where it's "Whoops the Shah Jr is the only living person that can take over?". Or you have to donate $1 billion to be allowed to live and run for office?

call me crazy but I think the head of the Seattle City Council's library committee probably should be aware that Seattle taxpayers, who fund local libraries through a levy, don't pay an unrelated levy for libraries in other King County cities

it says a lot about us, none of it good, that we chose a leader with not a single redeeming quality: stupid? yup. corrupt? absolutely. dishonest? to his core. violent? maybe the most violent ever. any ability to empathize with people? none. baseline level of regard for human life? not even a skosh.

Nearly eight years ago, when I began reporting on the "working homeless," it was treated as an edge case, a tragedy at the margins.

That fiction has collapsed.

Housing insecurity is now an ever-widening sinkhole, swallowing not only the poor and working class but entire swaths of the middle class.

It’s also lazy speechwriting, and the public knows it’s just what hack politicians say. Makes them seem pathetic
