While decolonization is not a metaphor, it is also not a performance. It demands immediate actions: settlers accept stepping aside, giving back, opening positions, giving healthy resources freely (if it’s been polluted or corrupted, fix it), provide capacity, stop taking up space, stop explaining.

The narrative that “everything is getting more expensive” is so that everything can become more expensive. It is more expensive because we have given license for it to become expensive. Find the shopkeepers who are not price gouging you. Treat generous businesses well. Be selective & support local.

Tai Chi teaches how energy must be harnessed to not feed your opponent more energy. Direct focus on the opponent as an opponent legitimates the opponent’s stance so gaining more energy from you. This is true beyond the martial arts. To disarm them, energy must be harnessed in unexpected ways.

Chomsky: to keep people passive & obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but
allow very lively debate within that spectrum. That gives people the sense there's free thinking going on, while presuppositions of the system are reinforced by the limited range of the debate.

A system will redefine goodwill. They enter a position with a political vision & promises made to find themself voting on parking spots, or building height, or supply chain for spare parts, or on who is to pay to fix the pothole or how to clear out the homeless. It’s a death by a 1000 cuts.

Oligarchy (noun):

A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

“Oligarchy” in monosyllables? How about: “small group who rule bad” or “bad rules by few men make chaos & ruin lives”.
