They Answered an Ad for Surrogates, and Found Themselves in a Nightmare

“What was in all this medication? Where were these babies going?” Dozens of Thai women traveled to the country of Georgia as potential surrogates, on the promise of generous pay. But the longer they stayed, the more confusing things became.

One bit of urbanism that caught my imagination and I've always remembered:

However somehow I needed to get it out to the world and found myself here feeling a bit more authentic(!) with my small number of followers who has no idea about the woman I mourn for. Hello world, I wish I called her.

And it feels too weird to share these thoughts and the sorrow, writing about her in social environments which are crowded and familiar. I don`t particularly think it is bad to share and remember together but the process of posting a photo and a text about the person makes me feel like a poser.

To postpone calling a friend for a very long time, then waking up one day to learn that she just passed away. That is not good. Death doesn`t suit her and I am very angry at myself.

wasn't onion supposed to be funny? this is just pathetic.

why can male domination exist and even thrive within conflicts while female solidarity is shattering in every other disagreement? probably because the former is rooted in and nurtered by death and destruction.

thinking a lot at the same time about keeping boundaries, also overcoming them when needed, building bridges and sometimes breaking bonds. they seem to be very central to women's organising and you're constantly in the middle of a sea of tangled yarn trying to figure out how to untangle it.
