I always think of it as a personal affront - how could I, erstwhile connoisseur of all things weird and wonderful and obscure, not have heard of this? IMPOSSIBLE! And then get really excited at another rabbit hole to go down. There’s always new (and old) great things. Humans are sometimes wonderful

I can never understand why some people view "Never heard of it!" as a withering insult. Loads of things virtually nobody has ever heard of are brilliant. Not all things virtually everybody has heard of are total dogshit, but my empirical research has demonstrated to me that a vast number are.

Also, Wikipedia does a pretty good job for a lot of books, if you really don’t have time to read the book or you wanted to check something you’ve forgotten from one you have. The slow accumulation and unfolding of a book IS the activity… this is taking a (probably red) pill instead of eating a meal

Watching Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986) for the first time since it came out on VHS. Funnier than I remembered.

I know you’re worrying about what to wear / how to act etc & there’s a certain delirious fun to that second guessing but, by the time you get to 40, you’ll just be wearing & doing things you did at 18 all over again because you’ve realised you can & there are no rules & no one is looking anyway
