Episcopalian, socialist, dad. I like trains, bicycles, video games, and sharing. In a former life I did sound design for video games, but now I have a dumb email job with health insurance. Don't tell my boss when you see that I'm not working. Living in WA

I was reading "The Social Gospel in American Religion" and its interesting how this was a major issue 100-140 years ago. Christian protestant thinkers worrying about why men weren't at church.
Something something, and now we have the YMCA

tbh, i don't think they'd really need to build the light rail all to Everett if they just ran the Sounder a lot more. Is running the Sounder all day and on weekends really more expensive than building the Link all the way to Everett?

same for blackberries. but blackberries are fun because they grow everywhere here. money actually is no object in blackberry season and it rules

It's true for "good" stuff, like pro-LGBTQ rainbow flags or Black Lives Matter signage or whatever. Corporations will do that if a bean-counter decides that will increase sales. It's why a company might act super progressive right up until their workers want to unionize, then they try to crush that

Yeah. Corporations don't have any morals. They only do stuff to make profit. Trumps loves his ass kissed, so they kiss his ass and get various breaks that will probably save them millions or even billions of dollars.

Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren by John Maynard Keynes 1930

In 1930, John M Keynes said,
"For at least another hundred years we must pretend to ourselves and to every one that fair is foul and foul is fair; for foul is useful and fair is not. Avarice and usury and precaution must be our gods for a little longer still."

We got just 5 years to prove him wrong

The other day, Linus excitedly told me that "the same guy who made Work It Out Wombats also made Molly of Denali!" Both are shows on PBS Kids. He dragged me over to the TV to see the credits, where the announcer said, "This show was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting." πŸ’”

If anyone is here calling or emailing payment processors about their refusal to accomodate "NSFW" video games, could you also tell the payment processors to not associate AI companies, such as OpenAI, Anthopic, and X (Grok)?

Consume Me just got delisted in a wave of delistings on itchio. It's a semi-autographical game about disordered eating. It won the grand prize at the most recent IGF awards.

When storefronts start mass bannings, everything is threatened.

I'm in a much better place with my faith now because of it.

And I hope this doesn't come across as flippant. Bsky doesn't accomodate long conversations. I just want to say that I know that these are hard things to work through. I don't want to give an impression of thinking I have easy answers

I'm not LGBTQ myself, but I have a lot of friends who are, and I strugged with these same sort of questions. Like, I love and care for my friends, y'know?

Despite being cishet, this was a really big driver for me leaving evangelical traditions and joining The Episcopal Church.

A lot of people come into the games industry and pretty soon develop a cynical attitude that the industry is largely run by business guys who don't know a thing about video games. It's only after a few years and some seniority that you realize that those guys don't know shit about business either.

Under Cassie Franklin, the city has in many ways adopted an austerity mind-set, cutting city services like library hours and the really neat city-run petting zoo (RIP). Meanwhile, police budgets have grown.

Dog park goes up, historic gazebo comes down at Everett’s Clark Park | HeraldNet.com Construction began on an off-leash dog park at the north Everett park. The 103-year-old gazebo there is being removed.

Similarly, the city has been removing basic urban-amentities, like a historic 100+ year old gazebo from a historic park, because it was being used by homeless people as a shelter. This park exists just beyond the edge of the no sit, no lie zone: www.heraldnet.com/news/dog-par...

Hi hi, I'm a fan of The Urbanist and appreciate you sharing endorsements.
I feel the need to push back on Cassie Franklin being great on strategies to deal with homeless. The "no sit, no lie" zone in downtown Everett blatantly turns homelessness into a crime.

My 3yo told me his toy horse was named "Bookchat," because he likes books and he likes to chat. Solid name, 8/10

A cow stuffie was named "Millie millie." Honestly, excellent. 10/10.

A toy car with a face was named "BrigGrrrrCramChamper." Terrible, sorry. 3/10.
