As I'm truly proud I wanted to share our findings 👇🧵
Surely there are nicer ways to ask about your research. But I would not conflate ignorance with malice.
The general public deserves to know, I celebrate their curiosity!
I just take a deep breath, and try to explain a general idea of my latest work. Sometimes it works 😅
Presenting “Human in the loop optimisation for efficient intracortical microstimulation temporal patterns in visual cortex” again this afternoon at #SfN!!
Come discuss!
An amazing collaboration between the Biomedical Neuroengineering group at UMH and @bionicvisionlab.org
👋 At #SfN25? Interested in how head-direction cells anchor to visual cues?
🧠 Come visit me Tuesday Morning (8am - 12pm)

What is the most profitable industry in the world, this side of the law? Not oil, not IT, not pharma.
It's *scientific publishing*.
We call this the Drain of Scientific Publishing.

I was planning to go, but opted out given the very high cost and *politics*. Anecdotally, I heard from many other Europe-based people they also chose to attend conferences elsewhere

Maybe "intelligence" does not mean much at all and is instead a historical term very loaded with all kinds of connotations and prejudices, but no objective definition.
Reject intelligence, and I would say the problem/question simply goes away
I'm worried about outsourcing to a machine something that's part of our common endeavour to figure out the world. It's not enough that stuff is figured out, it's about **us** figuring it out! I don't remember phone numbers anymore – I outsourced that to my phone. I don't want that for my science.

Fair enough! My references are the talks I have seen by Eve. Much remains to be understood and I agree that we are nowhere near uploading 86 billion neurons to a computer, I don't think it will ever happen tbh
30.10.2025 13:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think it is very disingenious to say Eve Marder does not know how the rhythm is created. They found many different configurations that can create the rhythm, they studied how temperature disrupts some configurations more than others... They know **a lot** about these rhythms.

Very nice thread, but can't get on board with taking all the panels to external software just for the panel labels and layout 🙅
I always use subplot_mosaic (Tutorial from matplotlib docs: tinyurl.com/3efsadeb) and add the panel labels with fig.text(), no third-party software needed!
