I really hate anti-trans politicians, and I especially hate it because it was a culture war issue where we were clearly winning and then a bunch of nominally liberal people at the Times and the Atlantic decided to reverse that and they did.

But man I am trapped in a mental countdown to the anniversary of my grandpa passing. I’ve never had this happen before. Every day, I’m like “11 more days. 10 more days.” Today is 9 more days. I don’t have anything planned but it is so heavy on my heart and mind. Grief is the WEIRDEST thing.

I’m not big on holidays, my birthday, that kind of stuff. I never really was but it’s way more true now with Long COVID. It takes every ounce of energy I have to complete my bare minimum daily tasks. I can cook dinner and do my part-time job or I can execute a birthday cake/card situation. Not both.

Susan Levine at NYU is the doc who diagnosed me. She's a Dysautonomia specialist. Last I heard, she was not accepting new patients because of so many Long COVID cases. I've had great luck with Westside Family Medicine's Brooklyn team for just trying treatments with me. V. queer/trans friendly!

Just heard my wife holler “STOP SNOWING GOD!!!”

We are in a peak time of people not understanding the difference between “being punished” and “living with the consequences of their actions.” Punishment is intended to cause pain, shame, guilt, harm. It’s retribution. Harsh recompense. “You did this and now you’re going to pay for it.” Consequence is the natural result of someone’s actions. It’s direct effect. “You did this, which caused that, and now you’re living with the outcome.”

Forgiveness isn’t forgetting, or condoning, or making excuses. It’s a decision YOU’RE making about YOUR feelings about something that happened to YOU. It’s not about the person who hurt you. It’s about what’s going on inside of YOU. It’s never someone else’s choice. It’s always, always, always yours.

Do not be embarrassed that it took you “so long” to realize you’re queer! Feel the opposite of that! Most people stop being curious about themselves in the first quarter of their lives. Most people never question the cultural status quo, the prevailing institutions of their time, the religious beliefs they were born into, their own hearts and minds. But you did! You had to keep pushing and keep digging to get to the truth of who you are, and you freaking did it, dude!
