This is also something we found in early play tests of Lone Pine. Just big old chunks of text on the screen.

We now have a rough limit of 5-15 words per “line” (and a lot of dialogue choices to break things up, and ways to end the conversation early).

This is really great advice.

A good rule of thumb I had when I was working on my own games was “no more than four dialogue boxes, then the player has to do something” (whether it be a dialogue choice, gameplay, whatever)

Last thing you want is players to glaze over and skip your dialogue!
