Someday I'd love to work with a TV writer or game designer to write out immigration process stuff for [redacted], bc it somehow got worse for me and it's just silly—not like BAD worse, but "this govt office told me something wildly different when I tried to address this six months ago" worse.

There is no way my PhD research could've been done with AI. It could not! AI could not physically accompany someone to an immigration check-in, or hop on call with a lawyer as I did when someone (different) was suddenly detained.

I think those doing immigration research saying stuff like this that is blatantly untrue is bad. That's it: it's bad. It will hurt those caught in border violence, it does a disservice to our interlocutors, yes.

Ok ok ok not to keep lurking in your mentions (sorry!!!!!) the author is a cis gay man uh going after queer/trans people for 1) being queer/trans and 2) anti-Zionism so uh....I appreciate all the good work that rigorous researchers + educators like yourself do! This is a lot to push against!

The funniest thing was Conor Friedersdorf bad-faith "just asking questions about trans people" emailing what appeared to be (if I recall) the entirety of the UChicago Anthropology Dept Faculty, and the result was a combination of "lmao" replies and posting the email online.

And also, someday I hope we can learn about the scope of the damage, and not just from places like If Books Could Kill/etc that actually do try to trace this.

Someday, I'd really love to have a proper archive of outlets like the Atlantic, NYT, etc dealing with research/academics on trans life because there are SO MANY stories, and at this point...we all can't know everything, but there are outlets that do not deserve good faith, and that's worth knowing.

Abstracts are already pouring in, and we are looking forward to more of them:
