ON APPLICATION TO VACATE INTERLOCUTORY STAY ORDER [March 2, 2026] PER CURIAM. Before us is an application to vacate a Court of Appeals order staying a permanent injunction entered by a District Court on behalf of parents and teachers who claim that certain California policies violate their rights under the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The parents object that these policies prevent schools from telling them about their children's efforts to engage in gender transitioning at school unless the children consent to parental notifi-cation. The parents also take issue with California's requirement that schools use children's preferred names and pronouns regardless of their parents' wishes. The teachers object to their compelled participation in the implementation of the State's policies.
When the Ninth Circuit stayed the injunction, the parents and teachers filed this application seeking vacatur of the Ninth Circuit's stay pending appeal. II We grant the application and vacate the stay with respect to the parents because this aspect of the stay is not "justi-fied under the governing four-factor test." Alabama Assn. of Realtors v. Department of Health and Human Serus., 594 U.S. 758, 763 (2021) (per curiam) (citing Nken v. Holder, 556 U. S. 418, 434 (2009)).

This is the final week of early sunsets. Daylight Saving Time starts March 8th.
By this time next week in Montréal, the Sun will set at nearly 7:00 PM.
Tapping this sign rather more often than would be ideal lately

This regime is killing innocent people because our leaders are all power-hungry tyrants and war profiteers. When you say it's "just a distraction" you minimize the gravity of what's happening and the lives lost.

I feel silly posting, and I'll have something better to say when I'm more than a few hours out, but:
1) Bluesky helped me fundraise when I found myself in a crunch and she needed surgery (THANK YOU)
2) Reading talk about pet grief as normal helped me a lot, maybe it will help you
Today I said goodbye to Willow (aka Willowcat). I am grateful to everyone who taught me about catlife (my first cat! first pet since I was 3!), and everyone who talked with me about pet grief after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.
I am also grateful to her for changing my life for the better.

One thing I appreciate about The Pitt is its thoughtfulness in using the real-time format to reframe the tropes of the medical drama. The past two episodes' painstaking account of a sexual assault exam is a remarkable example.

It makes me really, really angry that governments are doing this stuff!
One of those in the CAQ leadership race (party in power here in Québec) is the Minister for Education, and he said that (paraphrasing) Muslim women who wear hijab "made their choice" to lose work. It's discriminatory!

good story from the sun-time about the consequences of criminal charges—even if those charges are later dropped.
wish they would apply the same logic more generally to people facing things like gun charges, which get dropped all the time bc they’re bogus/illegal.

New Trump plan: stop processing work permits for asylum-seekers until the asylum application backlog goes down.
But they’re not gonna put more people on fixing that backlog. Which they estimate could take
173 YEARS.

The Liberal government of NB is proposing to sabotage our thriving higher ed sector.
It's hard to tell if this is incompetence, malice, or neoliberal disaster capitalism.
Regardless, it's not too late to turn back.
@kristiallain.bsky.social and I explain for @canadiandimension.bsky.social.
tl;dr The QC government is saying "wait *nine years* instead of receiving PR now" and is refusing the federal government's program for non-economic migrants. There should be a fight about this, I'm not sure there will be.
archive.ph/xu2lB
We now have QC saying they don't have to give status, and what appears to be the Minister for Immigration saying that's fine. It's not!
The federal government should be clear on the Canada-Québec accords, at very least because it impacts lives (also it's a governance issue).
2/2
Throwing in a little context—to make the Liberals' levels plan more palatable, there was a one-off push to give a number of approved, in-Canada applicants for refugee status their PR.
QC isn't giving PR grants, even though this is outside the immigration QC has authority over!

This is the worst case scenario occurring at almost all turns.

- PD screws up in releasing him
- Border Patrol release catastrophically screwed up
- PD blows off missing persons report
