toronto sceptres losing the pwhl broadcast poll to "i hope both teams have fun" is humiliating in a way i've never seen happen to a sports franchise before

How a White Nationalist Club Found Safe Haven Inside a Montreal Gym | The Tyee The owners say they were unaware Frontenac Active Club met at their facility.

"Images posted to the club’s Telegram channel show its members posing for propaganda pictures in the gym, with huge flags unfurled and Nazi imagery on at least one member’s workout clothes."

Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein The warning signs included a web search, a mother’s doubts, and inklings of a “sexist attitude”

Many of the scientists Jeffrey Epstein courted were already well-established and well-funded. So why didn’t they all just say no? Science talked with three who did just that.

Here’s how Epstein approached them, and why they refused to have anything to do with him. ⬇️ https://scim.ag/40qbXnv

Ok ok ok not to keep lurking in your mentions (sorry!!!!!) the author is a cis gay man uh going after queer/trans people for 1) being queer/trans and 2) anti-Zionism so uh....I appreciate all the good work that rigorous researchers + educators like yourself do! This is a lot to push against!

The funniest thing was Conor Friedersdorf bad-faith "just asking questions about trans people" emailing what appeared to be (if I recall) the entirety of the UChicago Anthropology Dept Faculty, and the result was a combination of "lmao" replies and posting the email online.

(Credit to the faculty!)

The whisper archive is alive and well, and there are safety concerns (I know there still are for me, even after [redacted]).

And also, someday I hope we can learn about the scope of the damage, and not just from places like If Books Could Kill/etc that actually do try to trace this.

Someday, I'd really love to have a proper archive of outlets like the Atlantic, NYT, etc dealing with research/academics on trans life because there are SO MANY stories, and at this point...we all can't know everything, but there are outlets that do not deserve good faith, and that's worth knowing.

Abstracts are already pouring in, and we are looking forward to more of them:
if you work on queer topics, are interested in aspects of in/visibility, and have always wanted to come and see Heidelberg, please consider submitting an abstract for our interdisciplinary meeting in September 2026!

Alternatively: ...it's the Atlantic on gender/sexuality, and I wish more people (not you!) had realized what was going on there earlier, sigh.

Maybe put another way, I think the 'transing the gays' links to the academy (or sociology more specifically) is not from failing to clarify differences b/w sexuality and gender (which I'd point to pushback on this from trans theorists), but rather stuff like a refusal to theorize w/transmisogyny.

Domestically and abroad the drive is christofascist white nationalism. They’re happy to pay for Israeli bombs dropped on Christians in Palestine. They’re happy to detain and deport Christian’s from Latin America. This should surprise no one at this point. Huckabee is ambassador for Gods sake.

I think it is on some academics, but for different reasons than you're raising here (...the number of academics who have pushed 'transing the gays' stuff or who have accepted some of this stuff, it is a larger number than one might think)

SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES

ELIZABETH MIRABELLI, ET AL. U. ROB BONTA,
ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CALIFORNIA, ET AL.
ON APPLICATION TO VACATE INTERLOCUTORY STAY ORDER
[March 2, 2026]
PER CURIAM.
Before us is an application to vacate a Court of Appeals order staying a permanent injunction entered by a District Court on behalf of parents and teachers who claim that certain California policies violate their rights under the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The parents object that these policies prevent schools from telling them about their children's efforts to engage in gender transitioning at school unless the children consent to parental notifi-cation. The parents also take issue with California's requirement that schools use children's preferred names and pronouns regardless of their parents' wishes. The teachers object to their compelled participation in the implementation of the State's policies.

I'm already sick of "It's all a distraction from Epstein" replies. This regime is killing innocent people because our leaders are all power-hungry tyrants and war profiteers. When you say it's "just a distraction" you minimize the gravity of what's happening and the lives lost.

In case you’re just waking up, the U.S. has teamed up with Israel overnight to start an illegal war of regime change, apparently on a presidential whim with no involvement of Congress, and they are already committing horrific atrocities.

Learning how to lift has been such a gift—I was really really sad today and I spent 50 min lifting ~12.3k lbs and then ate a pizza. It didn't solve everything, but it helped a lot, and I got a deadlift PR and a pizza.

I feel silly posting, and I'll have something better to say when I'm more than a few hours out, but:

1) Bluesky helped me fundraise when I found myself in a crunch and she needed surgery (THANK YOU)

2) Reading talk about pet grief as normal helped me a lot, maybe it will help you

Today I said goodbye to Willow (aka Willowcat). I am grateful to everyone who taught me about catlife (my first cat! first pet since I was 3!), and everyone who talked with me about pet grief after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.

I am also grateful to her for changing my life for the better.

'The Pitt's' Rape Kit Storyline is Quietly Revolutionary The show’s real-time storytelling gives viewers a startling look at a process rarely captured on TV.

One thing I appreciate about The Pitt is its thoughtfulness in using the real-time format to reframe the tropes of the medical drama. The past two episodes' painstaking account of a sexual assault exam is a remarkable example.
