The worst thing about the book I just read is how much the author harped on the age of the MMC as being geriatric and uh... he's a year younger than me.

Just as an anecdote as a wide author: 44% of my total income this year came from Amazon ebook sales. 0 of my titles are in KU.

Going wide is a "yes, and" strategy. You're not *not* making your titles available on Amazon.

It totally isn't coincidental that Amazon/Bezos contributed to this monstrosity and has his editorial board come out with this.

Also, having lived in DC for 11 years, way to (not) read a room, Bezos.

The worst is when you know they suck while drafting, but you're trying to get stuff down, and then future you is just mad.

I regret to inform myself that putting the books and toys on display in their shelves instead of all over the house does, in fact, mean my kids will interact with them better.

Proud to say I knocked out everything on my extensive Admin Week to do list, and can now spend my childfree Friday reading books and gazing into my husband's eyes. 👀

And the way they double down when you tell them it's obviously AI.

I also have things like "set up the next 2-3 months of newsletters drafts" and "schedule Amazon ads for the next 6 weeks" just anything that takes more than a passing thought.

I also have a mad to do list (hello coping skills) and when there's a rabbit hole I want to go down, I add it to the "things to accomplish during admin week" project, then tackle it when I have space.

Also on this list: Scheduling a social date and one self care task.

One thing I highly recommend for full time authors with the hyperfocus-brand of ADHD is to schedule an "admin week" between drafts. It gives me a week of buffer if drafting goes to hell, and it also gives me a week to tackle the boring things I didn't have the executive function for earlier.

I don't want to watch a fucking video. I don't want the only instructions of how to do something to be in video format. I don't want my social media to be a bunch of videos. I should not have to bring headphones (or annoy everyone) to doom scroll on the train. GIVE ME TEXT.

I wrote a 115k word book in a month.
Read it on my kobo and revised it in two days.

I hope the betas are as obsessed with it as I am.

Update: I wrote 9500 and got all the way to the end, minus the boning scene and one small scene getting character from point a to point b.

I'm actually gonna have a ready-for-other-peoples-eyes book by next week, omg.

Surprising no one, the book I wrote for funsies to avoid stress is, in fact, stressing me out.

Per my calculations I've got to write like 15k tomorrow.

(Or, more likely, I write as much as possible then leave the final bits for next week's pass)
