It cannot achieve all that adequately without some intersubjectivity. This takes place with a psychoanalytically-informed supervisor and with the therapist’s own therapist. A therapist who has undergone psychoanalysis/psychoanalytic therapy may have developed the skill of self-analysis,

Reflective practice is great (there are several models for it). However, it falls short of revealing true unconscious motivations, interpersonal enactments within the therapeutic relationship, and interpretations of therapists’ reveries and countertransferences to inform about patients.
