I would like to be able to say that this is only a #Lewisham problem but I moved from #Southwark and it was almost as bad there.
This picture was outside my last flat
I hate to see it and I hate to say it, because I love this city, but there is shit everywhere in London.

I know that this is mundane.
But its this shit that is grinding people down right across the country.
Week in week out. Walking past piles of shit to get to your front door.
These were in late January and December

We recently had a single recycling bin provided (for a block of 20 flats)
But the address was not added to the recycling collection round because 4 weeks later it has never been collected.
So guess what happens?
This one was 2 weeks ago:

Last year I moved to #Lewisham and my god, the waste management is bad. These photos are 1 week apart, outside my front door.
Every single week the bins overflow, foxes get at the contents.
Flytipping is a twice weekly occurence.
Old mattresses, smashed up sofas, dirty nappies.

The US Israel war on Iran is raising gas prices and you will feel this in your pocket.
Our dependency on global fossil fuels, and their cost, hurts us, again.

Green surge was inevitable now the βwasted voteβ argument no longer holds.
Labour will need to offer positive reasons to think again rather than simply saying Greens couldnβt win an election.

Hannah Spencer's victory speech this morning is worth watching in full.
Fantastic, straight talking, highly effective political communication

Another senior London Labour councillor joins Greens as wave of defections continues
James McAsh blamed Labour becoming βintolerant of anyone pushing for progressive changeβ for his defection
Meanwhile in South London, another defection from Labour to Green, this time in Southwark. Added to Lewisham (where I live), Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Barking and Dagenham.
These councillors all know what's coming in May: Green surge, Labour wipeout. www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

Yes but in a very different parliament. In a parliament flooded with reform charlatans, propped up by what remains of the conservative party - I wouldn't be so sure they won't succeed

Nigel Farage unveils Reform UK frontbench team and warns over dissent
Leader says move should end claims of one-man band and shows party is βcreating a machine for governmentβ
Let's not downplay how dangerous & regressive this is from Reform UK:
"Tice, a longtime sceptic of net zero policy, pledged to end what he called the βmadnessβ of clean and renewable energy, to focus instead on offshore oil and gas and fracking."

I would point out the crucial difference between planning policy and regulation. Whilst Environmental Impact Assessments might be required by planning policy, this is not regulation. And the Building Regulations themselves are very weak on environmental - they only cover energy use of buildings

Yes, I saw and it's a great article. But I still disagree with that claim, and I spend much of my time looking at this stuff! In the years since Brexit, the EU has moved much faster on environmental regulations for new buildings. In fact it is the UK that has fallen behind

How London unwittingly killed housebuilding
A perfect storm of policy and regulatory headwinds has slowed new construction to a trickle
This is a good piece but @jburnmurdoch.ft.com is incorrect when he says the UK has:
"enhanced environmental regulations more stringent than those in other European countries"
In fact the opposite is true. UK's env. regulations for new builds are v. weak

The author is simply wrong when he says this, European environmental regulations are much stronger:
"Adding to these are enhanced environmental regulations that are far more stringent than those in other European countries and levies requiring developers to invest in local infrastructure."

The biggest threat to our national security is the US.
China's emissions have peaked, their renewables rollout is charging ahead.
Meanwhile the USA backslides, it's emissions will continue to grow.
As a result, we are all less safe. The US is the threat.
