So much for European soft and hard power as well as European strategic autonomy. If this is what the EU can achieve in ***trade*** of all the things, things look dire.

Sharp synthesis of the 2024 landmark reports by Letta and Draghi and their implications for the EU's economic agenda.
Now, the 2028-34 MFF negotiations will test whether the EU truly backs its new competitiveness agenda - with sufficient financial commitment and, crucially, political legitimacy.

Congrats @manuelamoschella.bsky.social & Luca Quaglia!
Great piece arguing that the changes proposed by the twin Letta/Draghi reports go much further than technocratic adaptiations - demanding a switch from fostering internal competitiveness to facing external competitiveness, which also requires different political legitimacy.

In our new @jcms-eu.bsky.social piece, Lucia Quaglia and I argue that the Draghi and Letta reports go beyond competitiveness - they mark a shift in the EU’s political identity. But this entails huge challenges!
