But things are always moving. And we're moving in the realm of aesthetics, which is not their terrain, though they trespass on it briefly, and think they have the map and the territory, ha ha

I am kind of at a nadir of optimism on this topic despite getting more involved in and enjoying zine related stuff because of how enclosed and systematically eliminated everything that encourages peer-based collaboration and creative sharing online has been lately. So I get extra pissed off abt it

I am just really tired of like "professional" small business whatever people shitting up entire scenes or infrastructures and then acting like they didn't do anything lol but at the same time like they HAD to and anyone who wouldn't do what they did are the bad ones. like hmm

SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE

First off SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE. This was an amazing gig, felt like seeing early Sonic Youth must have, I think??? They have been doing dreamy, noisy, beautiful, depressing music for a while now: spiritofthebeehive.bandcamp.com

Party Dozen A sonic partnering of saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and percussionist Jonathan Boulet, Party Dozen is a project loosely based around improvisation.

And finally... Party Dozen... this shit is crazy. If you want kids to stick with marching band you should be letting them listen to this rather than making them line up and play the fucking Forrest Gump theme party-dozen.bandcamp.com

If you have ever enjoyed or learned from a zine, would you join me in sharing or donating to this GoFundMe, for an artist who is a friend of friends and who is currently incarcerated and facing deportation related to allegedly having and moving some anarchist zines?

I have been getting a lot (of connections, of feeling like my work is circulating in the world... for cash I just about break even) from zine fairs... there are places that are encouraging but they're definitely not driven by metrics

from the wikipedia page for The Third Policeman:

Publication history

In 1940, O'Nolan completed the novel and circulated the typescript among friends in Dublin. He submitted it to Longman's, the English publisher of his first novel, At Swim-Two-Birds, but they declined to publish it. O'Nolan believed that Graham Greene, who had been a champion of his at Longman, was still a reader with the company, but he was not. Consequently, the novel fell on less sympathetic ears. The rejection notice read in part:

We realize the author's ability but think that he should become less fantastic and in this new novel he is more so.

The American author William Saroyan, who had become acquainted with O'Nolan during a brief stay in Dublin, offered the use of his literary agent in finding an American publisher, but with no success. O'Nolan made no further attempts at publication and shelved the manuscript, claiming that it had been lost. O'Nolan told his friends that while driving through Donegal the boot of his car opened unknown to him, causing the manuscript to flutter out page by page until it was gone. In reality he left it on the sideboard in his dining room, in plain view to him every day as he ate, for 26 years.

Anyways, a beautiful story, a terrible story, about one of my favorite novels, which I think of often, having to live with my basically unmarketable artistic practice
