β€œClass actions have been a really important vehicle for collective action,” Kazi says, adding that if you have published a book you should definitely check out the settlement website (almost 500,000 books are members of the class).

Description
Among practitioners and teachers of writing, a resistance to Al is taking all kinds of creative forms: organizing among colleagues to change language in publishing and teaching contracts; crafting legal strategies to counter those of Al companies; refusing requests to incorporate Al into writing and teaching practice; and much more. This panel, drawing on the tradition of workers' inquiry, is meant for those interested in hearing from colleagues deeply involved in crafting these strategies.

Decided to attend a panel for the first time in a couple of years here at #AWP26. And it’s this one, featuring @vauhinivara.bsky.social, @alexhanna.bsky.social, Carmen Maria Machado and Umair Kazi.

The video of a United States Senator joining the violent removal of U.S. marine from a hearing and hideously breaking his arm in a door is an example of what has been unleashed in this country. They’re tapping in to get in on the violence.
And then he bragged about it on X later.

New on MS NOW:

The war with Iran is costing the U.S. an estimated $1 billion a day, according to two congressional sources with knowledge of the matter.

Based on that estimate, the U.S. has spent at least $5 billion on the war since it began on Feb. 28.

You simply arrest, fine and release.

On behalf of Brian’s family, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of support, messages, and contributions over the last 24 hours.

At this time, our priority is Brian’s wellbeing. We are taking a necessary step back from the public eye to allow him to focus fully on his recovery in private. While he looks forward to engaging with you all again very soon, his health and his family remain the current priorities.

Thank you for your continued patience and for being such an incredible community. Please keep Brian and his family in your prayers.

And for the record, I’ve been running long before this, and yes even after breaking my arm standing up for what I believe in. It’s only made me more determined. Anger is real, and so is resolve. Take care.

maternal gran worked in the fields picking the harvest. she had her own veg garden, and still keeps animals to this day.

I honestly have no clue if my paternal gran was ever like, employed, but she did have her own farm with animals and everything, where she did most of the labour most of the time.

Kristi Noem, while governor of South Dakota, supplemented her roughly $130,000 salary by secretly accepting $80,000 donated to a political nonprofit she was affiliated with, records show.

She never disclosed this income on federal ethics forms.

My maternal grandmother was a shopkeeper along with her husband. I haven't gotten a clear explanation of my paternal grandmother's job (which is typical of my parents).

Nothing exciting. Cook and seamstress, both worked into their 70s and provided their daughters (seven between them) with options and freedoms they could hardly have dreamt of for themselves.

I admire them greatly.

My paternal grandmother worked retail in a department store in the Bronx until around 1970.
My step- grandmother was a piece of work.

My maternal grandmother and grandfather ran a business together. She was probably more of a businessperson than he was.

My grandmother worked in the late Forties in San Francisco at the Emporium department store in their women’s sweater department. The goods were so fine that they were kept in glass cases. Occasionally, men would come in wanting to try them on. She would treat them as any other discerning customer.
