i think the fact that i can say over and over again 'i am not being ironic, this is not a bit, my books are not a joke' and have people on the right AND left just say 'NO YOU ARE' to my face (or my mask) over and over again is very telling. culture just cannot deal with neurodivergent people yet

In 2014, Atlanta Police were ordered to arrest anyone wearing a mask at a protest, due to a Georgia law which stated that wearing a mask “gives rise to reasonable apprehension of intimidation, threats, or impending violence.” Feel like that’s a closer comp than wearing PPE in a pandemic.

But because of how pervasive the stereotype is, any time the possibility that some virulent queerphobe sounds too jealous gets pointed out, the idea is shouted down because of that stereotype. I fear to even name one particular famous person who sounds that jealous!

Not all homo/transphobes are secretly queer themselves, but boy oh boy does a lot of transphobia sound like jealousy sometimes. Lotta folks who gave up on themselves feeling that if they can't have it, nobody else can, either. The same way conservative women are misogynists to feminists.
