One of the best feelings, one that never gets old, is selling a set of all three of my books in the signed package that I offer directly. That's a huge leap of faith, a vote of confidence, a ego-booster in the best way.
Now I get to load up their package with extras and write nice inscriptions. πŸ’œ

This is good advice.
It's part of why I wrote my series as open/connected, not reliant on each other for continuity. And that means that folks can read first about the characters they think they'll connect with best, too.

Gifts For Writers, 2026 Every year I (try to) do a GIFTS FOR WRITERS post, which is to say, a post speaking not to the writers per se but to those fortunate (or unfortunate) souls that have writers in their lives. Writers…

A somewhat shorter -- though not sweeter -- GIFTS FOR WRITERS this year, over at the blog.

Shingles on your face is also INCREDIBLY painful.

Please get the vaccine.

I had shingles on my face in my 30s. It was miserable, it left scars on my face and left me with Bell's palsy for months after.

Get the vaccine. You'll feel crappy for only a couple of days max.

I pretty much loathe everything about AI, chatgpt , Llms...etc.

But the most galling thing to me is that we live in a world filled with natural, and human, beauty and we chose to make fake slop while putting the actual real life stuff in peril.

not really! science fiction and fantasy are primarily marketing categories. but also, if there is an aesthetic distinction, it isn't "plausibility." Le Guin said it better than I can: www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/342990...

Same, and I don't even understand how the company thought "THIS will improve our program!"
It honestly makes no sense [not that I want AI in anything I use]

So much of the backlash against what people call "cancel culture" just flat out ignores this idea. No one ever said redemption was impossible or that one would be defined forever by their worst actions but forgiveness is not automatic, redemption is not earned by patience alone.

It only took four of us making a two-minute public comment about the library at the city council meeting for the councilors to restore the funding the mayor’s office had cut.

Me: I really need to read some of the books I have in my pile of books next to the bed [literal TBR pile]

Also me: Oooh look, a new book launched by an author I love! *grab*

[This is literally the best of problems; I read fast and insatiably]

Today would be a great day to pick up one or more of my books. They're a series but stand alone easily, and if you're in the US you can even buy them directly from my website.
If you need a big dose of learning how to shake off self-doubt, I recommend Cast a Shadow of Doubt.

That includes paying for the art that you love, too. Because artists and writers and musicians need to eat in order to create. They need to pay rent and buy supplies and afford to travel to events.
It doesn't have to be much. The combo of being loud and buying a thing or two? Tremendous.

I spend more time on here promoting other projects/books/music/art than I do my own things. That's purposeful--if we're not loud about the things we love and want to see in the world, then those things will go away. Art needs attention to thrive.

If you want to see more of a thing, be loud about it
