I care less about Signal chats and more about the blacksite offshore concentration camps we're sending random people to without any semblance of a trial, so I'll be interested to see if the national media can rub their bellies and pat their heads at the same time this week. Historically they can't.

Our house was vandalized last night. I’m sure it was teenagers pulling a “prank.” But ours is the only house in the neighborhood with a pride flag 🏳️‍🌈 and it was the only house toilet papered.

Could it have been worse? Yes.
Am I glad it wasn’t worse? Yes.
Am I going to take down our flag? Fuck no.

Just submitted the manuscript for my chapter “Queering Holocaust Memory” in the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Holocaust Memory. The editors, Frances Tanzer & Thomas Kühne, have been a pleasure to work with. Cant wait for publication. #queer #lgbtq #memory #HolocaustHistory

When looking for stories from the past to guide us in the present, Fritz Kitzing's is right up there. Fritz survived Nazi persecution with the support of family. @jakenewsome.bsky.social pieced together this history along with many others 👇

Look, we tried to warn people. At this point, the only way out is through. Trump will precipitate a collapse and only then can we rebuild towards a better future. Our goal is to minimize the number of people we lose along the way. Build community, help others. Resilience is all we have.

Stop letting unfunny men tell you there’s something wrong with you for not getting their “jokes”. Stop fake laughing. Let their reality reflect the truth of how fundamentally they misunderstand humor. Neuter their ability to use “it was a joke” for emotional cover. Make them see nobody laugh.

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

Alright, history hive mind. I’m looking for some examples of “great men” in history (especially scientists, philosophers, philanthropists, etc) who were famously promiscuous. Any time period, but especially the Victorian era and the Gilded Age. Any recommendations?

Martin Luther King wasn’t asking people to do community service. He was asking folks to liberate oppressed peoples.

Amazon cuts mentions of DEI and LGBTQ rights from public policies The online retailer removed commitments to supporting transgender rights and the safety of Black customers and employees from a webpage of corporate policies.

Rainbow capitalism was always hollow but it's jarring to see two decades worth of progress pushing equality wiped away in a few weeks.

I'm amazed this has to be said, but IT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE AND GOOD for people to have outlets and interests that can give them joy at times of immeasurable existential crisis, and demanding that they don't and instead fall into irremediable and permanent despair is doing the fascists' work for them.

2025 is starting off with a sucker punch. My great aunt passed away yesterday. I’m having trouble putting into words how special she was to me. I had to get out of the house, so I spent the afternoon seeking solace in nature, among the ancient mountains and eternal stream.

2024 has been hard. My MAGAt father cut ties w/ me. Feeling helpless watching the attacks on trans people. I’ve also had moments of extreme joy. Being a Papa to my 3 year old. Learning to tend my trees. Watching new sunsets. Loving my husband. Im nervous going into 2025. But trying to lean into joy

Jimmy Carter took on the awful Guinea worm when no one else would — and he triumphed Carter targeted diseases primarily affecting the poor in remote areas — notably "Guinea worm disease." Because of his commitment, case numbers plummeted from 3.6 million a year to just 13 in 2022.

Carter used the power of his post presidency to nearly eradicate guinea worm. There were 3.5 million cases when the Carter Center’s work began in 1986. He said in 2015 that he wanted to see “guinea worm completely eradicated before I die.” There’ve been 7 cases this year. www.npr.org/sections/goa...
