Wikipedia says The Big Lebowski made a small profit in its initial theater run, like $19m revenue vs $15m production cost,
before eventually becoming popular.

Buckaroo Banzai was always trying to be a niche cult movie.
And if I haven't been to the dive nightclub used as "Art's Artery",
I certainly went to several places like it when I lived in Central NJ.

There used to be a "Where the Wild Things Are" restaurant at SF Moscone Center when I worked near there, and friends showed up one evening with a plan to "wildly rumpus", though alas the restaurant was closed that day and we all headed to Max's cafe, bouncing across the Moscone roof playground.

Given what most of them think their actual jobs are,
and what horrible things they're trying to accomplish at them,
that may not be 100% bad.
Like Trump playing golf, it at least means he's away from Fox TV and not causing as much trouble as he'd get up to at his desk.

Do the drinkers have to go up to the bar to order,
either individually or by buying a round,
or are there servers who bring everybody their drinks and make you pay when they arrive?

Does "cut [DC] security funding" mean "defund the police"?
Or is he just going to have Congress try to stop the water dept from keeping the water clean?

I cannot say the Sad Puppies were totally bad,
because they did introduce many of us to Chuck Tingle,
who's been a wonderful part of the community,
even if they thought they were pwning us by doing so.

Russia, so he backs off a few days after getting tough.
For trashing the American economy, he does chicken out if the market really screams, but he keeps on trying to cut us off.

Yeah, and while the lab-grown meat that doesn't get fed animal-based nutrients isn't commercially ready for prime time,
I'd try it.

As the article mentions, there used to be a Jolibee next to Moscone Center. I had an office downtown back then, though, being vegetarian, most of their menu wasn't for me,
but for a quick soda/fries/dessert they did as well as anything in that space could.

One of Terry Pratchett's books (presumably Soul Music) has one of the characters telling another "You look, like, Elvish."

It's surprising how many meat-eaters get triggered by the idea that some people don't eat meat.
Not just the "ok, more bacon for me" type, but really upset.

They always have had a vegan option, some kind of veggie boiled to death, and various kinds of potatoes that don't have dairy as well as some that do :-)

Bush looks intelligent and competent compared to Trump.
In spite of still being the Dubya we knew.

Vegetables, and a high-protein dairy dish.
Sounds like excellent nutritional choices!

It is kinda wild! that the first chains of Big Box stores who are sharing license plate readers directly with law enforcement are the hardware chains Home Depot and Lowe's where immigrants hang out looking for day work and ICE is targeting for raids.

"Sound like someone who knows what they're talking about,
at least if YOU don't have any actual knowledge to check them"
is another skill they have; it's most useful for replacing CEOs.

Sound wasn't playing when I watched that,
but the jingle from Australia's "Dumb Ways To Die" commercial would've been fairly appropriate with it.

There are places you just can't get high-speed internet,
and dial-up is still plenty fast enough for email.

My mom's provider just vanished one day a few years back,
so we got her set up with cable modem (she'd had to get cable TV after the digital transition broke broadcast PBS for her.)

If posting here is an adequate way to file an amicus brief*,
Judge, please make sure there's also video of the Administration's witnesses testimony that can be used later for perjury trials.

I forget whether I've tried to make an alcoholic gel with agar,
but agar works if anything better than animal gelatin for
making coffee-jelly desserts.

I'm in California, where it's always nice, but that's only affordable because I moved here 30 years ago.
My uncle from Minneapolis moved to Pasadena a couple years ago to live near his kids, having decided in his late 80s that he'd had enough snow.
