Look for the right opportunity. Reserve some energy for the time when it will count the most. Don’t burn out. This is going to be a very long road.

The decient people of the world can win if we support each other.

This makes complete sense. This is what I posted β€œLook for the right opportunity. Reserve some energy for the time when it will count the most. Don’t burn out. This is going to be a very long road.

The decient people of the world can win if we support each other.”

Sadly, it really does not help. Not one bit.

True or not, it’s crazy that he would have said that in public.

When things go bad in big worlds, make much better small worlds to share with friends. We are as gods.

Wildfire climate connection Climate change, including increased heat, extended drought, and a thirsty atmosphere, has been a key driver in increasing the risk and extent of wildfires in the western United States during the last ...

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Trump will overplay his hand. Be ready for when he does. Friends,

One of the better things I have read on the next four years: open.substack.com/pub/robertre...

Fluffy white clouds above a mountain lake form the shape of a woman with her arms out and the sun on the tip of her nose.

One of my favorite shots. This is completely unedited the clouds did this all on their own.

Pretty open and shut here. Democrats won a critical NC supreme court election but corrupt judges on the same court are overturning the result in favor of the loser. How's that work? Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

A graph depicting female life expectancy at birth over the years, with the vertical axis representing lifespan in years, and the horizontal axis indicating years from 1840 to 2023. Various colored dots represent different countries, with Hong Kong with the highest in 2023 at 88.1 years. The graph notes that Hong Kong and Japan have held records for the past 40 years. Previously, countries like Iceland, Norway, Australia, and Sweden were among the highest. Data sources are the Human Mortality Database for 2024 and UN World Population Prospects for 2024.

Life expectancy has continued to rise in the longest-lived countries

We were at UW’s beautiful Suzzallo library grad reading room. I was going on about my experience as a student. She turned to me and said β€œyou know, that was 30 years ago”.

I had not realized so much time had passed.

@nwwoodsygal.bsky.social the PNW wilderness is amazing! I was a graduate student at UW. Last June I finally got to show my wife Seattle and Bainbridge Island. At a nature reserve for a work retreat / conference.

I see who it is of course, but what is this image from? (It’s probably something that most people know, but I sort of live in a cave oblivious to so much of the world.)

Agree. But perhaps that could change if people see a better opportunity. I hope.

Is seems, sadly, like Trump’s standard minimum entry fee for corporations. Expect a lot of corruption in the next four years.

Install a Linux VM on your Macs and see if you can live with it? Ours is an Apple household also, even though my own code runs on Linux.

Very true! But also time travel is fun.

I have to say, when I did some, I sometimes discovered that things were way worse than I had imagined. (And sometimes there were a few decent people who restored some of my faith in humans.)
