After knocking doors for a few hours stopped in to Cafe Piccolo Pastry & Bagels in Mahopac. So great to meet small business owners that take pride in what they do. They are pillars of our community. And man, do they make great cannolis!!

As veterans we took an oath to defend the Constitution, the same oath members of Congress take, and that’s what we were doing on No Kings Day.

Happy Halloween from Team Cappello for Congress!

November 1 is rapidly approaching. SNAP, WIC, and Head Start are about to run out of funding. Millions of Americans are about to face significantly higher premiums when shopping for their 2026 health coverage plans. Republicans need to show up and put the American people first.

Our community deserves a Congress that understands its job description is clearly written in the Constitution, who will stand up to a president who is overreaching, and who will put OUR interests first.

Should the Republicans be worried?
Yes, yes they should be!

Just over a week ago I was surrounded by people hungry for a change and motivated to do whatever it takes to protect our democracy. Voters know the deal, they know who are not doing their jobs.

Spent this morning at the Jewish American War Veterans Annual Breakfast in Rockland County. Fellow veteran Lt Jeremy Glassman gave an inspiring talk on leadership and community service. I was honored to be there and reminded of our commitment to service before self.

If the shutdown extends until November the SNAP benefits of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers could be impacted. It's time for Republicans to show up at the negotiating table and end this shutdown. Enough is enough.

And if Mike Johnson and Mike Lawler want to challenge my love for this country, I say bring it on. I flew ops against the Russians and the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. I’m not intimidated by the 2 Mikes. They can’t even keep the government open.

As an Air Force officer, I took almost the same oath that Mike Johnson, Mike Lawler, and even Donald Trump did. We all swore to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. And the constitution makes it clear that there should be no kings.

This shouldn’t be controversial.

It’s literally the opposite. It’s because I love this country, our people, and the idea that we are always striving to be more perfect in the future.

I didn’t serve as an Air Force officer for 26 years because I “hate America.” I didn’t serve on the diplomatic staff at our embassies abroad because I “hate America.” And I’m not protesting this weekend because I hate America.

Mike Johnson says all those planning to protest this weekend “hate America,” and what’s clear from the way he dismisses us is that he has real contempt for Americans.

The freedom of assembly, to protest even, is fundamental to who we are as Americans. Any efforts to delegitimize lawful protest or silence dissent is un-American.

I’ll be in the streets this weekend because I cannot sit on the sideline while people use their positions of power to undo everything America is supposed to be. #NoKings
