Of course the greater evil would never stop tempting her, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

All this had to count for something.

She needed to be a good person. The realization that she was no better than the people she cursed would cause her mind to cave in on herself. She had to be better, by any means.

Even if that meant choosing a lesser evil just to survive.

Maybe it was it normal to be so numb. She knew she was prone to overthinking. Other cities probably weren't any different. At least so she hoped.

A twisted thought, she realizes as fast as it had formed, but it was the only one that could save the image she had of herself.

The thought of it made her feel like she could taste the blood again. It was everywhere, always.

Just this morning, she'd walked by yellow tape. Worse so, she hadn't even spared a single glance. It was like seeing a car in the road or pedestrian on the sidewalk.

It remains strange. Her mind knows that one who regularly contemplates bloodshed cannot possibly be a good person, yet she considers herself one.

This city was filled with such wickedness that the mere absence of it stood out.

Once again, the blade crosses her mind. The passing of time seemed proportional to the amount of times it did.

After all, why shouldn't she wield it? It gave purpose. Put food on the table. It had never been anything but good to her.

Then again, so was the apple to Eve.

So it is in fact a blessing, according to you?

You can't live peacefully or for free either.

Then what is it, V?

I've yet to figure out whether death is a tragedy or a blessing in this city.
