Started painting the EdoKanto set from @corvusgamesterrain.bsky.social for use in Infinity.
The roof is printed at .04mm, the main structure at .06mm because it was giving me trouble.
Airbrushed with Liquitex Basics paints, and then details painted with more Basics.

Have you ever had a painting session so successful that it makes every other session harder.
I use Ciri's face for my avatar because it's one of the best things I've painted.
But everything else I paint on my model is not and feels like I'm letting down the face.

It won't help with tokens - but Infinity has a really good free app. (and fully free rules in PDF and wiki form)
Also, Warcrow by the same company has a free app with plans to make it so you can see all of your opponent's units and their current status in your own app.

No, they are bigger. They are something like 35mm scale. They wouldn't look terribly out of place next to GW stuff, which is getting more heroic scale, but the Dwarves I painted are as tall as an Infinity miniature.

I haven't had much trouble. Building - they have the problem metal models would have at their size, and some techniques, like files, for cleaning mold lines are not effective.
Painting has been great.

So, this pattern is really about maximizing the joy I experience and protecting it jealously.

It does mean I don't take advantage of limited time sales and buying in bulk to shave shipping is not something I'll do.

This might seem extremely virtuous and disciplined, but in reality I've realized that buying a mini is about as much fun as buying 10.

While having an actual backlog of stuff I want to paint is an ongoing mental drain on my joy.

Then, in the wait for the mini to arrive I tackle something from my backlog. This way I'm slowly chipping away at that pile. It's all stuff from abandoned project anyway, so timeliness isn't important.

I have determined the most optimally satisfying way to manage my backlog. I wait until a miniature is ready for varnish before I order my next miniature.

Because I don't buy GW I'm not usually ordering off the shelf, so this means a delay while my FLGS orders through their normal channels.

I can't find the specific set. It was a boxed set with an adventure set around Bree, but the pictures I've found online don't match my memory.

It simply described painting miniatures from the skin out. That was enough for me to visualize the process as something I could do.

Calling the Shikami done. Maybe. I think I figured out what the polearm shaft is missing, and I also forgot the ponytail.

Finally, please never tell a painter their miniatures make you not want to paint. Even meant as a compliment it is a bummer.

When the thought comes do what I do: Tell yourself that you can get there.

I think the key to getting people painting is to make them think to themselves: "I can do that."

A section on painting minis in I.C.E.'s LOTR rpg did that for me.

So, what is the solution? Should top painters chill out? Of course not.

Instead I think sharing more is the answer. All levels should share their minis. "Good", IMO, is an easy bar to hit.

If we look at the counter example - soccer. There are undoubtedly some athletes who set their goals high and abandon the sport when they realize it won't be possible for them.

This is speculation but it sounds reasonable.

Let's assume that these are real feelings people have.

I don't have them myself, so I can only speculate.

My best guess is that being a "good" painter felt attainable and some high quality example has changed that.

One comment I always hate hearing is: "Paintjob is so good it makes me not want to bother painting."

Yet, I never hear "Messi is so good I won't play soccer."
