The slave concept in in the African tribes was considerably different from that of the westerners.
Slavery for them was a 1-2 period of bondage when captured by an enemy tribe not lifelong-generational servitude.

I find I can't disagree with you. It started with Reagan in 1984, and despite democratic efforts to stop it, they could only slow it down. Now, we are on the cusp of tyranny and I fear for my people and the world. It wasn't always this way. Once we were great. I hope we learn to be again.
