I had no idea that a freedom colony -- what had once been a thriving Black community after the Civil War -- was only a handful of miles from campus. And that even more freedom colonies are all around us. This was a fascinating story that I hope helps save Dabney Hill.

I've heard quiet talks about a Hensel Park redo for many years, but this public discussion of how Texas A&M University, City of Bryan and City of College Station intend to collaborate on making it a special resource for the community is tremendously encouraging.

The Big Event is March 22 -- thousands of Aggies helping residents with projects such as landscaping and window washing. Hear insights from event director Becca Dawson, and assurances from City of CS's Caroline Ask that solid waste crews are ready.
