Photo of title page of free online PDF Identifying West Coast Forest Lichens, by Brodo, Craig and Rhoades. It uses photos from that heavenly tome, Lichens of North America, and in the 44 page guide beneath each photo are clear and vivid descriptions of each lichen's features, its habitats and range, and chemical clues if you use chemistry to confirm IDs. It is very handy in the field, and due to the excellent descriptions, it might be useful if guidebook photos are unhelpful for any reason. The picture is not a link to the PDF! You need to google the title to find it. The guide is produced by the Canadian Museum of Nature and Environment Canada, among others. I've used it a lot and really recommend it!

This is an excellent free resource that I highly recommend to fellow westcoast PNW lichen enthusiasts! I could not make a link, but if you google the title the 44pg PDF comes up, and it is *so* handy for when you've found a delightful lichen and have no guidebook.
