Republican Proposal Would Make College Scholarships Taxable Income Republican lawmakers are considering making college scholarships fully taxable to help pay for continuing tax cuts that mostly benefit wealthy families.

We know a financial hardship of $500 can derail a student from persisting, which means a tax bill for scholarchips and grants will sideline a number of students. That’s probably the intent. The smarter play is to help students graduate and collect taxes from their higher lifelong earnings.
