People do what you pay them to do.
You pay corporate executives to make stock prices go up, not to make better products.
You pay politicians to get re-elected, not to govern well.
You pay reporters to get a bigger audience, not to tell the truth.
And so forth.
Be aware of what you pay people to do
My other favourite wild reading book is The Third Policeman by Flann OβBrien. Now Iβm wondering if it was never published in his lifetime partly because of worries about its digressive, footnotey anti-structure.
His At Swim-Two-Birds was at least as wild but in yet another way. Genius

Letβs talk about Smelt!
We want to make an always-on podcast channel made up of multiple short-run scripted comedy series. This is because making a new channel for every series is a huge barrier to getting traction and attention, so we want to build an audience of people willing to try new things.
Full moon through silhouetted willow branches in violet twilight
Summer tree in sunshine symmetrically framed because the photographer is standing in an architecturally interesting bandstand
A tree in full leaf perfectly framed by a railway arch filling the foreground of exactly the same size and curvature
A view up the trunk of a mature pine tree. The trunk is deeply textured and extends in perspective towards the radiating and interestingly curved branches above, through which a pale blue sky can be seen
OK. Iβve settled on these. Iβm glad I posted another tree before for SundayPixRed
Locations are:
Mill Hill, London
Leek, Staffs
Arnos Park, London

Remember when Gary Lineker, who as far as I know pays tax in the UK, was told to stick to football?

I did a couple of times. I learned this:
1. if you laugh at Kevin, soon you become Kevin
2. Fall over. Itβs fine, itβs soft. Trying not to fall over all the time is agony.
3. Donβt go skiiing anymore.

UK only.
Tonight, Labour MPs voted to scrap the two child limit β a move that puts us on course to drive the biggest reduction of child poverty in a single Parliament.
The Tories and Reform UK voted against it.
Donβt let anyone tell you voting Labour doesnβt make a difference πΉ
