go to Fox and you have to scroll before you even find anything on tariffs, the whole thing barely exists

How many train wrecks do we have to survive before we pull our heads out of our collective asses and let women run this country?

They called it from day one.

I just learned the guy who runs the coffee shop on my block used to be a tagger and graffiti artist. he decided he was too old for that and now he and his crew make miniature trains and cities and tag the boxcars, walls and billboards (that light up!) absolutely pure, non-toxic masculinity!

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse.

2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report."

3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes."

This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

For what it’s worth, when I spent years in Afghanistan and Iraq, the most powerful thing I ever saw was USAID digging wells & repairing schools. The most effective power we will ever have.

Guy who runs a farmers market booth I’ve shopped at for years had much less produce than usual, he said people are afraid to work thanks to ICE and the new administration. Grimness everywhere.

The Department of Education is one of the most important institutions in our country. Its elimination will turn us back decades, with the goal of whitewashing history, normalizing slavery, J6 & erasing Pride, Juneteenth and MLK as national holidays.

It’s gross negligence.

Hot tip for the next two years: a Republican bill does the opposite of what it’s called.

A GOP bill defunding schools that mandate vaccines would be called the β€œProtect our Schools Act.”

A GOP bill raising the retirement age for social security would be called the β€œRetire With Dignity Act.”

The Story of the Harlem Renaissance, in 6 Facts Throughout the 1920s, New York City’s Harlem neighborhood served as the vibrant headquarters of a transformative period in African American art, literature, music, and social justice leadership.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are πŸ“‰

If you are a federal worker being offered a buyout, I would advise against taking it.

Of course, this is a personal decision for everyone and it’s your choice.

But these offers are a rush job. The legality is questionable and this admin does not keep to its word.

They aren’t firing for a reason.

German Opposition Gambles With Far-Right on Immigration, and Loses
Friedrich Merz and his Christian Democrats broke a political taboo by working with the hard-right Alternative for Germany to toughen rules on immigration. It did not pay off.

German Opposition Gambles With Far-Right on Immigration, and Loses Friedrich Merz and his Christian Democrats broke a political taboo by working with the hard-right Alternative for Germany to toughen rules on immigration. It did not pay off.

In an effort to portray himself and his party as tough on immigration, Friedrich Merz, the leader of the poll-leading Christian Democrats, pushed a series of measures tightening borders and accelerating deportations through Parliament this week. He did so with help from the hard-right Alternative for Germany party, or AfD β€” parts of which have been classified as extremist by German intelligence agencies.

On Friday, the gambit ended in a crushing legislative defeat for Mr. Merz, dissent in his own party and jubilant claims of new legitimacy from the AfD, a chain reaction that could rattle Mr. Merz’s comfortable seat at the top of the polls.

Mr. Merz’s willingness to rely on support from the AfD, broke a taboo in German politics that had endured since the end of World War II.

Lessons to be learned:

1. Centrists align with far-right to look tough on immigration
2. Centrists gain nothing
3. Far-right wins more power

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or β€œcontroversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive
