LBH sees "himself" and despises it. it's not a mirror, not quite. when they meet, they cannot defeat one another. his counterpart fights in a sly manner, flashy and underhanded, more skilled and yet lacking the brutality it would take to win. They are so dissimilar it should be funny.

the "true" Luo Binghe meets his other self, meets SY masquerading as him, and hates him.

- even like this, SY is still "the protagonist". perhaps the act of touching Xin Mo breaks something in the world, the threads keeping the realm stitched together loosening, and two Luo Binghes meet - one the true article, and one a false jade replica.

when he is finally pushed into the abyss and is made to endure pain pain painpainpain--

maybe finally then he would find it hard to pretend it's just a story still.

he might wish that the real Luo Binghe could come back and take over, and spare him.

knowing this is "just a story" softens the blows, until they're just pesky annoyances. it makes them hate him more, somehow, that he doesn't seem to care.

of course because SY is SY, he jokes, cajoles, and represses his way through the early years, slowly grinding his stats in secret.

here he is forced to take on the role of his favourite character, the only character worth anything in this whole damned story.

he is whipped for nothing. he is beaten for answering in class. he is made to kneel in the sun until he blisters when he stays silent. he is punished for being alive

self-cest but in the way that SY transmigrates as Luo Binghe, the protagonist. he suffers because he must, because the system demands it of him, but he doesn't have the same hardened, blackened core. his tragic backstory is stolen - he is the third son of a loving and whole family. but not here
