Yesterday was the U.S. House Appropriations Committee mark-up of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development FY26 spending bill. Though an amendment was offered to restore funding to fair housing, the amendment failed to pass.

The Republican funding bill for the Department of Housing and Urban Development cuts funding for civil rights enforcement by 67%.

I offered an amendment to remove these cuts, and protect all Americans from housing discrimination.

Fair housing is under threat. Across the nation, efforts to roll back protections and undermine enforcement are gaining momentum.

Consistent w/nationwide statistics, the #1 type of housing discrimination in ND is against people w/disabilities. This reflects 60% of the over 400 calls received last year. About 25% of those cases are veterans who have PTSD and need a variety of accommodations and modifications to use their homes.
