I think I finally realized what bothers me even about the framing of Iran in discourse. People frame IR’s tyranny and US/Israel’s imperialist aggression as a choice to be made. Even the “good” leftists say “we reject both choices”. This absurd choice to strike Iran's plants can't help but look to me like a *deliberate* attempt to get Iran to genocide arabs for the US and Israel. The question is whether their tyrannical regimes survive the water riots and if China or whoever is able to sprint engineering support in somehow.

If Iran follows thru and continues hitting salination plants in the region until they're wiped out I just don't see how the population survives the summer. How are that many million folks supposed to physically move, much less thru all the borders hardened after Syria etc?

After we stopped critically relying on their oil, the US continued support for the GCCs was mostly a matter of positioning contra Iran and to keep them from becoming clients of another power, and Israel wants every Arab nation destroyed. So Iran wiping out drinking water does their work for them.

I don't think Hegseth or Rubio thinks beyond their nose, but I worry that the US becoming self-reliant and a major oil exporter changed the calculus: the continued existence of the GCCs benefits China, so having Iran genocide them while it dies is a net win for the US empire.
